Calzaghe wasn't a light heavyweight, he had 2 fights there, that was it. Kovalev's power would probably be the difference. Whereas, at super middleweight Calzaghe schools him.
been there myself mate. its all about getting into a normal routine, but its fun being a vampire while it lasts
This. Kovalev is a beast, but if Pascal could hit him and push him back a times then Calazghe could do the same and obviously in a much more impressive matter.
? So, using that line of thought, because Byron Mitchell put Calzaghe down, Kovalev would end up killing Calzaghe. Bottom line, neither guy ever faced a fighter like the other, so it's hard to see clearly how their styles would mesh. That said, Kovalev is bigger and stronger than anyone Calzaghe ever faced, and a good boxer to boot. Right now, he's a better fighter than anyone Calzaghe ever faced. Calzaghe is faster with a better workrate and motor than Kovalev ever faced, and also a better fighter than anyone Kovalev ever faced. Calzaghe doesn't run, he'd fight. The key to me is that Calzaghe was not a great defensive fighter and would get hit. It seems far more likely that Kovalev would hurt and drop Calzaghe than Calzaghe being able to keep him off of him for 12 rounds with his activity alone.
At LHW Joe C would have problems keeping Kovalev off him, regardless of his speed. At SMW, Joe wins easily, but at LHW maybe not. People are downplaying Kovalev's boxing skills. He's improved by orders of magnitude with his new trainer.
calzghe would defeat them by running away to another division or into retirement, his usual trick in adversity.
Like he did to Hopkins and Lacy? The truth is The only man that can beat Calzaghe at SMW or LHW is Calzaghe...PERIOD.
