Did you just compare Froch to Lacy :-( I agree with everything else but Froch is no Lacy ..

 

Froch has power like Left Hook Lacy Imperial but how can he deal with Calzaghe's footwork and handspeed? That's what I mean... I am not saying that lacy's style is similar to Froch.

I think his his jab and the way he uses angles could nuetralize Joe's speed .. I mean Froch is a decent boxer very akward so it be a tough fight for Joe no doubt .. Funny but Bute is almost a clone of Joe ..I can't wait t see what he does to controll his speed ..

 

Nice try. I was pointing out Calzaghe's accomplishments in comparison to Ward and Dawson.

I've typed up multiple times on here what would happen between Calzaghe vs Ward, Calzaghe vs Dawson, it's too late now, but when I have time I'll dig the posts up.

 

Some of those guys would give him problems but I honestly think Joe would beat them all. If you tried to 'fight' the guy he just fought harder and harder to win and had great stamina and workrate. If you boxed him, he just got the better of you. He had a pretty strange slappy style but it was ****ing effective.

 

Plenty of fighters from Calzaghe's time could survive in today's 168 division. Besides, Joe has already beaten two of the present top 6. Also, only a moron would criticise Joe for leaving division the when he did - he had achieved EVERYTHING.

As for Brits overrating him, Ring had him p4p #3, BWAA named him the 3rd best fighter of the decade and Kevin Iole has him 14 in his top 25 of the last 25 years.

 

Isn't that the same Iole who said Floyd should fight Andre Ward ? Yeah he's not the most credible !

 

I think you are right. I believe Dwyer, when discussing Iole's list, said Calzaghe should be top 10.

The point is there are Americans who rate Joe highly. I've seen American fight fans on Twitter say Calzaghe is their favourite fighter. Honest.

Calzaghe was a pure SMW. Dawson really shouldn't be part of the discussion, as he's a big LHW (ymmv). Calzaghe could beat all of the fighters listed. I honestly think Bute would be the biggest threat because of his power. Calzaghe often got reckless and tempted fate by fighting rather than boxing. Bute could make him pay. Calzaghe v Ward would be very close, and very hard to score, but Calzaghe's workrate and stamina would eke out the decision victory - unless they fought in Oakland.

Ward would be his hardest fight I think. Not sure who i'd pick. Dawson would get bullied : he's got the skills but not the balls. Calzaghe would be a bad style match up for Bute, he wouldn't have enough space and time to counter. Froch would never beat Joe. Dirrell would flop all over and quit.
