If his opponent shells up(which most of his opposition has), Alvarez will lead cautiously, but his natural inclination is to be a counter-puncher, and he doesn't punch unless the opening is there. This could cause him problems in the future as the Alfonso Gomez fight showed(where Gomez was aggressive and didn't provide many openings due to punch variety and upper body movement), but against a sloppier puncher in Kirkland with a weak chin and little defense, it's unlikely that it would cost him.

Kirkland has the power to get his attention and get his respect something hatton, cotto, rhodes could not do

gomez had some defense and it put canelo on ice

i think the fight will be decided in the 1st 5 rounds maybe not end in the 1st 5 but after the bell in the 5th we will know whats gonna happen

we will know whether or not Canelo can handle the pressure and power

we will know if Canelo's hands are just too fast and if he can keep Kirkland at bay

i think Kirklands chin is really getting underrated

he took a shot behind the ear and like most normal human beings lost his legs, he got up from the third KD and wanted to go on but just couldnt stand, he wasnt out cold or anything

Canelo's best asset is his handspeed he discourages his opponents and gets them to shell up because his shots get there first and they dont wanna open up

Canelo has been caught and stunned before

Id take Canelo in the 6th or later but cant be 100 percent sure

I do not think that you are an idiot as are so many of the people who post on this forum but do you honestly not realize that that is exactly what happened in the fight? Kirkland does not have a Chin. That is not blind hatred or bias, it is truth. He is wobbled every time someone connects on him, flush or not.

Within thirty seconds of the Ishida fight he was flat on his ass and from a jab. Within thirty seconds of the opening bell in the Angulo fight he was wobbled by a jab and flattened by the follow-up. He spent the next two minutes in a complete defensive shell being battered across the arms and gloves from pillar to post and what saved him wasn't the fact that he has been magically transformed from Glass Jawed Joke to Iron Chinned Warrior by Mann Wolfe. It was the fact that Angulo, not having the greatest Boxing ability or ring IQ, threw wild, sloppy punches like a caveman and did not hit the button again. On the other hand, Ishida just kept Boxing and allowed the KO to come naturally as Kirkland continued to slop up the joint with his wild bumrushes.

Kirkland has no defense. He cannot jab. His footwork consists of a head-first rush in a straight line to his opponent and plodding after them. He couldn't move his head out of the way of a wrecking ball from 100 yards out. He is a head-first brawler who throws hooks and hopes they connect, and while I generally enjoy that style, he does not have the Chin to employ it. He is going nowhere fast and his career would be finished now had Angulo not fought like a drunken berserker. Canelo, for all of his faults, would shatter his Glass Jaw early because not only does he have a better Chin (slightly), he is a wholly superior boxer and he picks his shots well for a young guy.

I just want to see the fight and I know someone will be ko'd. If Alvarez really wants experience before facing Floyd he should get it from facing Kirkland, Dizzywreck(can't spell his name on my own to save my life), and another top 5-10 guy at 154. Him being protected going into a Mayweather fight is not smart at all on his part as he'll gain experience going the route I suggest. He'd be more prepared though Floyd is one of a kind, one of the few elite fighters you can't replicate with skills almost unparralled. Better to have those risks beforehand and collect a few good scalps along the way then take the first risk in your career against a veteran that would most likely end your career if you aren't prepared. Enough with the "he isn't ready" crap. The guy has a legit belt for an illegitimate reason(being Mexican and breathing) so he can fight whoever is at the top in or near his weight.(Especially in his weight. Seeing him fight blown up welters is not a good look)

And as far as Kirkland's chin, it's no where near elite but decent. If it was as horrible as made out to be then Angulo, a known puncher would've taken him outta there. His facing Ishida was just one of those nights he came unprepared and thinking it was going to be an easy night so Ishida made him pay for that, embarrasingly. BTW I have Canelo as a huge favorite against Kirkland but until he faces a pulse we can never know how good he is. The guy has skills but how good are they facing an elite level of opposition? Can't answer that(hopefully I can add "yet" to the final sentence)

    It's all relative.

A green 20 yr old Canelo did to Baldomir what a Prime Floyd could not and has already accomplished more than Floyd at that age.

Great question and the best reason this fight needs to happen. Before having a "0" became such a priority, young fighters were tested like this in order to grow. Even if the kid lost a fight like this, his career wasn't over. Damn, I feel old.
