I thought i'd post it here due to the main forum turning this into a Pac/Floyd abc thing.

How would this fight of gone down back in 2007?

Floyd would have won. But Cotto was in great form back then and could have made it a good fight.

Cotto sees the last bell but loses fairly wide. Maybe 10 rounds to 2, 9 rounds to 3.

I cant be bothered to analyse it as im a lazy twat but I think Cotto would have given him a bit of trouble before losing a decision, say 8-4. Shame we never got to see it, would have been very interesting.

Cotto PWilliams was the best fight to be made at 147 in 2007

Hmmmm, IMO in 07' Cotto had an 'aura' about him.

Think the fight would have been pretty much the same in floyd starting slow, Cotto winning first 4-5 rounds, then after floyd clicked into gear, steps up and forces a very late stoppage.

Would've been great to watch though, still would like to see it now but wouldnt be as big a PPV as it could've potentially been after Floyd beat Hatton.

EDIT - After Hatton the fight would've needed to be the 1st quarter of 08, but you get my point.

Floyd wouldn't have been forcing a damn thing. He lacks the workrate or firepower to get Cotto out of there. he'd just peck him until the final round and take an 8-4 decision. Floyd is safety first, especially against guys that can box and time their shots.

You're right about him being safety first and a UD would be a sensible bet to make, but i think with an opponent who's defence he could pick apart like Cotto i wouldnt neccesarily bet against him forcing the late stoppage (particularly if Cotto had suffered cuts).

Just wish the fight would've happened instead of a "vacation"!

Cotto is a pretty good fighter defensively. He can use his legs and keep out of trouble. I don't think Floyd would attack the way Pac and Margo did because it's just not his style.

Short of Miguel getting uncharacteristically aggressive and reckless, I see this going the distance.

Cotto's jab and left hook would of caused Floyd issues, Plus the fact at that time he was progressing showing some slick skills himself. Personally i think even if he beat Margarito that fight wouldn't of happened. Floyd wouldn't touch it IMO.

That would have been awful to watch. The height and reach advantage, plus williams massive workrate and fairly solid chin would made it a fairly easy night.

Floyd, at that point, had the legs and was more defensive than he is now. He'd likely give up about 4 rounds in a UD. Would have been a great fight, though.

  13. I think Cotto would have beaten Williams pretty handily myself.

Even though Williams has significant height and reach advantages, he surrenders those relatively easily.

Margarito took five rounds off Williams by doing nothing more than walking forward, Cotto is easily more skilled and has a greater offensive variety..... whilst Quintana did nothing more than slip overshot punches and land sneaky counters before skipping out of range - rinse and repeat for 36 minutes.

Cotto vs Floyd.... interesting fight but Floyd UD for me.
