Many people think Cotto is nearing the "ATG" level. I think he needs some more big fights, and I think he'll beat everyone except PBF. Still, he has enormous potential and anything can happen.

If PBF were to beat Cotto - how would your opinion of Cotto change in terms of his ATG ranking? How would it affect your ranking of PBF?

If Cotto were to beat PBF - how are the two fighters' ATG ranks affected?

My opinion is that if PBF beat Cotto, it would be as I expected so it wouldn't affect my opinions of either right now. PBF is certainly one of the best lightweights/welterweights to ever fight, and he's top 5 for sure. Cotto is on the verge of greatness and needs a few more big wins to cement my opinion of him.

If Cotto beat PBF, I think Cotto would go way up in my book, and PBF would drop a bit, but only slightly. I would think that Cotto just really must be great to beat such a fighter as PBF. If he did it again in a rematch then that would do it for me - I'd put him above PBF on the ATG rankings.

I think we're all geting a bit carried away with Cotto because he has such a fan-friendly style. He's a good boxer and certainly has the potential to be an ATG, but he was brought up kind of slowly, to the point where Mosley is the only really impressive name on his resume. Judah, Malignaggi are pretty good, and Torres and Corley aren't bad, but nothing to write home about. So I guess to answer your question: if he cleans up all of WW for a couple of years, and maybe grabs a belt at 154 he's probably there.

Whoever says Cotto is an ATG has lost a lot of credibility. Whoever says Mayweather is an ATG is spot on. Anyways...

If Mayweather beat Cotto, he would be a top 20 fighter of all time

If Cotto beat Mayweather, he moves into the top 100

Yeah, the Douglas Institute has a long waiting list.

It wouldn't change one bit because Cotto, though a top boxer, is nowhere near ATG status.

It would affect more PBF's chances to make it as an ATG than it would improve Cotto's chances.

This is speculation because, IMO, Cotto can't beat Mayweather right now.

if floyd won, it only solidifies what we already expected. He is ATG and that would be another nice feather in his cap. If he lost it would depend on how Cottos career afterwards turns out.

If Cotto won, he would take another step to ATG status but would still need more big wins to get there. But he's not far off. If he lost, then he would really have to clean out 147 and make serious noise, if not be the man there as well to be considered ATG.

Who says Cotto is nearing ATG status?

He has a long way to go.

Mayweather is an ATG allready for his prior work, but not a legendary ATG: I think Leonard, Hearns, SRR would beat him convincingly @ welter. Other guys from the 80's would be a handful: Benitez, Duran, Whitaker, Chaves, Taylor,.....

If Floyd beats Cotto next, then unifies welter, he would be top 15-20 in my book, but Leonard, SRR, and Hearns would be above because they would beat Floyd IMO.

Cotto still has a ways to go if he's to become ATG. If Cotto beats or loses to Floyd he has still has time solidify or even detract from his resume. Depends on how he does after the fight.

Worst case scenario for Floyd would be if Cotto beats Floyd convincingly and then Cotto starts losing to other welters
