How would Dillian Whyte have fared in the nineties?

I think the Ninties is an era unfairly underrated by some an Whyte is an entertaining fighter overrated by many. Ruddock would have knocked him out in short order in my opinion. He had a really good chin and that hellacious hybrid 'hook/uppercut' he threw is tailor made for Whyte. I remember reading an interview with Mike Dokes, and I am paraphrasing, but Dokes mentioned fighting at MSG or some venue, and the interviewer corrected him, reminding him he'd never in fact fought there. Dokes never missed a beat and simply asked the interviewer if he'd seen him fight Razor Ruddock, and the interviewer said yes. Dokes then said 'Well you surely understand why I can't remember where I ****in' fought'. Ruddock was blasted out by Lewis and had wars with Tyson, and had a losing gunfight with Morrison. All of those fighters would destroy Whyte in my opinion. The old adage about styles making fights stands tall here and Ruddock's attributes are all kind of wrong for a fighter like Whyte who always kept us entertained at the party but never got to sit at the top table....

 

Agree with this ... 90s second tier trumps current second tier.

Had a quick search over my lunch break and can't find it anywhere. Likely from an article in one of the many Boxing magazines around in the ninties and noughties, but it sure stuck in my head!!

 

Loses to Lewis, Mercer at his best, Bowe, Holyfield, Foreman, Holmes, Ruddock, Tyson, Tua, Ikeabuchi, Witherspoon, Moorer, McCall, Byrd.

Fights that I think are winnable for him.....Bruno, Golota hes mentally weak, Briggs, Hide, Grant, Maskaev, Jefferson, Akinwande, Morrison etc.

Overall I think Whyte could sneak into the top 10 but that's about it.

 

He would have got knocked out an awful lot in the 90s

 

I started making a list of how I think he would do but it just ended up being Whyte losing quite a few.

The 90s would be real rough waters for Whyte.

 

All good! Thanks for trying. I’ve got a similar clip stuck in my head. From the Bowe v Holy rematch. Bowe says “I’m gunna decapitate him”, if Evander comes straight at him. I had it on VHS back in the day, I’ve never come across it again.
