So Frazier was shot (even though his next two fights against Ali came after this fight) but Fury was at his best when he didn't fight for years before Wilder bout? Chinny Norton was stopped 4 times in his career, two times when he was basically a shot fighter. He was just as good defensively as Fury if not more and he also beat better fighters than Wilder did. Lyle would be probably Wilder's best win. Patterson was better fighter than anyone Wilder beat. The rest was also better than almost any Wilder's opponents.
He is 33 with42 fights under his belt,so he is leaving it rather late for legacy building wouldn't you say?
His next two fights against Ali don't change the facts that he was shot do they? Norton's defence obviously wasn't that good, go and look at those quick blow outs for proof. Patterson would be knocked in to Bolivian by Ortiz.
You can't! Anyway what as any of this got to do with him flattening Douglas? Douglas was not a great fighter, it didn't take a great fighter to beat him.
Yes, they do. Frazier came off the best performance of his career. He wasn't at his peak anymore but he was far from shot fighter. He woulf beat Wilder badly instead of Foreman in the ring. Norton was KO-ed twice in his prime. Shavers fight wasn't in his prime. Foreman was far better fighter than Wilder so I don't see quick blow out here. Norton defense was good enough against Ali and Holmes. Wilder hits harder than them but he's not powerfull slugger with ATG jab like Foreman either. Patterson beat many bigger fighters than himself who were punchers. It's far from a given that he'd get destroyed by Ortiz. Besides, Patterson was unanimous champion, Ortiz was just a good contender who doesn't have great resume either. He should be compared to lesser names on Liston resume.
Buster Douglas was the right man at the right time when he met a declining Tyson......and he needed all kind of personal problems to motivate him on top of it..........that Douglas fought only once and almost got ko'ed in the process by a partying Tyson........and he never ever mustered the balls to meet Tyson again for a mega payday.....he knew lightning never strikes twice. The REAL Douglas showed up against Holyfield or Tucker.....he had a lot of dog in him aka quit........he sucked , could have would have should......he did it once and ate himself into Bolivian afterwards. Wilder , when he elects to use it , has a excellent jab , fights tall, is laser focused and can switch you off at any time........that so called "Defense genius" Tyson Fury got clipped the moment he opened up from negative spoiling..........the same fools who claim Douglas would do a number on Wilder are the same fools that predicted that the Bodybuilder would beat him too......insert Wilder instead of the Fatso and the search team would be still out trying to recover AJ's head in the cheap seats. Douglas would have major problems with Wilder reach, awkwardness, nuclear right hand, conditioning and chin........the fight would exclusively at long range and Douglas was always there to be hit thru his entire career, he was never a defense genius and eventually he will get clipped and then he is looking for the soft spot and aint getting up. Fact. Yiou arm chair pistoleros have no clue how to gauge a FIGHTER........Wilder is a fighter...........WK was this super dooper technically masterpeace who stunk the joint out for a decade in jab and grab but according to the "experts" he was sooooo good at boxing that he got waxed by absolute ham and eggers.................and WK was never ever a FIGHTER, his brother maybe but WK folded like a cheap suit once he was made to fight on instinct.
He'll fight AJ and rematch with Fury. He will probably destroy AJ. Fury could win the rematch, and if he does, it wouldn't reflect too negatively on Wilder. Wilder vs. Ortiz is one of the best boxing fights from the modern era. The durability and heart alone in shown in round 7 by Wilder is out of this world. The shots both took over a brutal 10 round fight. The heart, grit, and determination shown by both men were crazy. That fight alone is legendary. Then you got the fact that he got a draw with the insanely talented Fury, knocking him down dramatically twice. He has his rematch with Ortiz next. Next will probably be the AJ or Fury fight. He'll probably even fight Ruiz. He has quite a few big career fights coming up. His age does worry me, but maybe he can carry his talents as a boxer late, we'll see.
I think if someone like Friday "The 13th" Ahunanya was around today, and was guided and faced with Wilder's opposition up the ladder, he'd be in Wilder's position today as heavyweight champ. I don't think much of Deontay Wilder or even the heavyweight division these days. Buster Douglas could fight when on point.
The old senile posters on here fail to realise it's not about who's the best textbook boxer. Douglas could and would likely box rings around Wilder but he will get tagged at some point and once he does it's goodnight.......
I think Wilder would have stopped Douglas. Douglas didn't impress me outside of his great performance against Tyson.
