Obviously he’d lose to Holmes, but how does he against the rest? Berbick, Weaver, Witherspoon, Page, Tubbs, Smith, Cooney, Dokes, Snipes, Shavers, Leon Spinks, Michael Spinks, Thomas, probably more I’ve missed out. How does he do in this era?
Terrell and Holmes were just active at the same time. Mad stuff. They actually fought on the same card.
This content is protected Bob Bozic interviewed here about his Larry Holmes fight, Madison Square Garden, September 1973, went six rounds with the future champ. About 90 minutes after that Jeff Merritt retired Terrell by first round KO. Wild stuff.
The 80's contenders were playing hot potato with the belts. It was almost like they were competing to see who could have the least number of title defenses. Given how often the belts changed hands, and that sometimes you had less notable champs such as Smith or Tucker, I could see Terrel snatching one. He had the height, ring IQ, and skill to cause an upset, but he wouldn't have been a major force or anything. Terrel would be lucky to manage more than 1 defense even if he did become a champ just like the majority of that generation. I think Ernie Terrel vs Pinklon Thomas could've been an interesting fight on paper. I would favor a prime Thomas, but for some reason I think this could be a decent matchup. Terrel vs Weaver or Tubbs could be good fights too.
Middle of the pack sort of 80s belt holder beats some he shouldn’t, loses to some he shouldn’t probably lol.
Could have got the right drug addict and won a WBA belt in that era, too, but would not have held it.
