How would Eubank, Benn and Collins have done against Calzaghe's best opposition?

So since we seem to be talking about the division a good bit at the moment, how would the good Super Middleweights from just before Joe's time, have done if they had been in his era. Would they have stayed unbeaten as well?

How would they have done in this major fights, I'm thinking maybe against Reid, Lacy, Kessler, and the 2008 version of Hopkins.

Feel free to mention any other of Joe's fights you think would be interesting.

    All three lose on points

I think 2008 Hopkins would give the lot of them problems. Collins could maybe win on pressure and workrate but I think both Benn and (esp.) Eubank would struggle.

I might be cruel on Byron Mitchell here but the Mitchell that fought Calzaghe up against Benn would've been fun for a few minutes.

Imagine the media tour for Eubank v Hopkins. Holy ****, you could make a programme right there. It'd be a dour, messy fight but the hype would be sensational. I'd back Eubank to beat 2008 Hopkins. But I actually think Benn would maybe play into Hopkins' hands to be honest.

Collins v Lacy would be x-rated stuff imo. Poor Jeff.

I wouldn't give Kessler a chance against any of the three to be honest.

I think a prime Eubank would have beaten the version of Hopkins that Joe fought, but then again B-hop was a LHW

I don't like Hopkins for Eubank. He's a crafty old ****er whose one weak spot is fighters with a high workrate. Not exactly Eubanks forte.

Against Reid: Eubank wins a close UD, Benn loses a UD, Collins / Reid is a toss-up. I think Reid shades it.

Against Lacy: Eubank humiliates Lacy in a more clinical fashion than Calzaghe did, throwing less but more authorative shots. Benn struggles and is hurt but beats Lacy via mid-late round stoppage. Collins wins a close and gruelling UD over Lacy, bad style for Collins.

Against Kessler: Eubank gets outboxed and loses badly by UD. Benn has his moments but loses a close UD. I see Collins harrying Kessler so consistently and relentlessly that he gains a very close verdict over Kessler.

Against Hopkins: Eubank is forced to come forward, and guess what? Oh yes, he gets thoroughly humiliated, losing most, if not every round. Benn and Collins lose by UDs as well. They'd try to outwork Hopkins, and honestly Old ******* just works them out and throws them off their gameplan.

Against Jones: Eubank loses by KO, Collins wins very easily on points and Benn beats Jones by quick KO.

That would be hella fun, and I could see Bika possibly winning that too.

    Collins would murder Bika.

I don't think a peak Jones could KO Eubank, never mind that shot to **** domestic level hack that was in with Calzaghe.

Thinking about Collins vs Kessler more :think

I can't help but think Kessler beats him either in a boxing match or in a toe to toe battle.

I mean, he outfought both Froch and Calzaghe in close, it was only when Joe started to retreat that Kessler looked lost...... Collins wouldn't retreat in a million years

Plus Kessler had the better jab, a solid right hand and a very good uppercut..... he'd not knock Collins out but he'd certainly make him fight his fight.

I don't think so, Bika is strong enough (probably even stronger than Collins) and tough enough to hang with Collins without a doubt, and I don't see Collins suddenly sticking and moving against Bika. If Collins were to win, he'd have a nightmare time. Ditto with Benn, but unfortunately it's the kind of fight I see Eubank winning and looking decent in.

As for Eubank getting stopped by Jones, it would just happen. Eubank would pose, Jones would get him, over and over again. There's a big class difference, and Eubank would never overcome it.
