Got a better one... How would Floyd do on the mat against Kron Gracie after 6 months of training?? Kron is around his weight. Old school no time limit. Just a submission match. What Floyd calls "laying on top of other men." I'm sure he'd have the balls to do that too for 200 million.
According to many on here BJJ is just "useless rolling around on the ground" Amazing just how ignorant some are of 'MMA', Wrestling, BJJ and non-boxing martial arts in general.
Floyd's footwork would make mincemeat of a sumo wrestler, sad but true. Now, an actual wrestler like GSP, would destroy him.
Sumo wrestlers are extremely strong, have incredible balance, short bursts of almost superhuman strength. They aren't just big fatties wearing thongs pushing and slapping each others chests. Actually a fairly complex and hard sport to pick up.
Every discipline can be useful but boxing is capable of negating all other styles too. If you're a BJJ guy in MMA there's a decent chance you could get caught coming in for a grab. There's very little chance of that guy beating a boxer at boxing. A case in point is karate. I knew a kid who was European champion for his weight and age who had a couple of fights with a few amateur boxers around his own size and he got laid out each time he tried it on. Obviously it's a case of horses for courses be t boxing has the most ability to negate vastly differing opponent's strengths within mma framework.
If you mean Floyd vs Machida ... Machida would kill him. Floyd is not going to have an answer for Lyoto's kicks.
Of course. But the boxing based fighter would to have serviceable takedown defense in order to thwart tBJJ based fighters, consistently anyways. Wrestling almost always triumphs BJJ, and some of the worst style matchups for BJJ experts have been wrestlers who had developed their boxing(Quinton Jackson, Rashad Evans, Chuck Liddell, Tyron Woodley) just to name a few.
Machida was an accomplished sumo wrestler! Actually, Sumo played a huge part in why he was so hard to take down and had such incredible balance/strong hips in general.
This is what I do not get about posters who claim Floyd just let McGregor work early in that fight to give everyone a show. Floyd is an egomaniac and would never do anything that would make him look bad. Which is why he would never do something like you suggested. I will say that Floyd could train for a year and still not beat Ronda Rousey in a Judo match. in all fairness though: I think after some additional time perhaps an additional year or two he probably could.
LOL ya learn something new every day. Machida is the last guy I'd associate with Sumo. He's more like Karate Floyd ... except for that he can really hit when he has to.
