Once again, you're backing everything up with "I think". This isn' proof of anything except that you have an opinion. When did I say Floyd's elbow was his back? You could clearly see him on his show getting treatment for his back, the elbow was in addition to the back injury. You saw him getting treatment for his back and hands on his show, you heard the doctor say that he shouldn't be fighting much longer, you heard Lederman say that he wasn't using enough movement, Floyd said his back limited his mobility, and now he's insisiting that the fight with DLH be pushed back until September. Could he be faking it? Of course, but the evidence suggest otherwise.
I doubt that he is injured enough so that he has to take a break of 10 months. I have seen no such evidence, you would need to be very severly injured to have that amount of time off. I dont doubt he has niggles but every athlete has them. Nothing to take 10 months off for.
I'm pretty sure Floyd knows his body better than you. Unless, you can come up with another good reason that Floyd insisted that the fight with DLH be fought in September instead of May, I'm going to have to assume it's because he wants to give his body more time to heal.
His doctor even said on the 24/7 that if he keeps fighting, he'll have to retire sooner rather then later. By taking time off it allows him to rest and heal.
I am going to assume it is because he wants some time off, he does not "need it". He has no injures that would require 10 months off. None, back pain, hand pain and an elbow injury are all part of the wear and tear of boxing.
Simple, DLH holds the upper hand in the negotiations, and had the Cotto fight to fall back on. By Mayweather making demands on dates, DLH could simply break off negotiations and commence with a fight with Cotto. Now that the fight is in September, Hoya feels the need to take a tuneup. If Hoya was deadset on having a big fight on May 3, the fight with Mayweather might not have happened.
This thread is unfair to Floyd since these are elite or former elite fighters who all started at welterweight or higher. Matchups against Cotto, Margarito, Williams, Clottey, etc. are more interesting.
So he wold go up by 30 lbs. for middleweight. Jones/Ruiz, considering how much Ruiz weighed is just as much of a jump if not more. Future champ Jim Jefferies had 80 lbs on Choynski who weighed about 170 lbs. No precedent would be set at all for Floyd to fight @ 160.
