How would Foreman fare against the following ATGs prime for prime?

Dempsey: Foreman KO2.

Tunney: Tunney, close UD.

Louis: Louis TKO10.

Marciano: Foreman TKO4.

Liston: Liston, UD.

Holmes: Holmes, UD.

Tyson: Tyson TKO8.

Holyfield: Holyfield, UD.

Lewis: Lewis, UD.

 

To finish off my predictions after some thought, I think Holyfield of the Tyson fights would outpoint Foreman. He had a GRANITE chin and an insurmountable will that would be able to take what Foreman would have. He would be able to survive the early rounds but dominate late.

Against Louis, I think Louis would be able to tag him as he was coming in and win in a slugfest where both men are dropped. Anything can happen though as these are two of the top punchers in history.

With Holmes, I'd favor Holmes. He was nearly impossible to knock out at his peak. Even a 38 year old Holmes was able to last 4 with a prime Tyson and he had to be dropped 3 times. He would be able to evade Foreman and win by late stoppage.

 

A younger Holyfield eeked out an 8-4 (at best) victory over a very much past-it Foreman.

Prime Foreman would anhialate Holy.

 

The younger Holyfield was smaller and didn't have the strength and ability to take a punch as the older one. Also, the younger Holyfield didn't have the experience of the 96 one that had 3 wars with Riddick Bowe that prepared him for a slugfest with Tyson. I agree that the Holyfield that fought Foreman would get stopped by peak Foreman, but the bigger, stronger, more experienced, and more resilient Holyfield that fought Tyson would beat Foreman.

In the 5th round, Tyson landed his perfect combination, his right to the body followed by a right uppercut. Holyfield took it, and while rattled went on the drop Tyson the next round. Being able to take that from Tyson who was a sharper and far faster puncher than Foreman convinced me that Holyfield could weather Foremans early strom.

 

For those picking tunney.......What fighter of George's size and power did gene ever fight?

 

I have already picked Foreman to beat Tunney on the basis that I think he would bring a lot more size, power and aggression to the table, than anything Tunney has ever experienced. The problem with making judgements about Tunney in fantasy fights though, is that he was never KO'd in over 80 fights, and only lost once to a man that he beat some two or three times. Therefore, Gene could possibly prove to be a problem for a lot of greats, then again, he may flop against some of the right people. I think film coverage may be limited of his early career, and his wins over Jack Dempsey need to be taken with a grain of salt, given that this was a previously inactive Dempsey that he fought. There was also that controversial long count thing, that some fans and historians like to pick apart. I don't know. Tunney is a difficult fighter to match with others.

 

Interesting. I'd be curious to know why you reckon so. I think Foreman mashes Dempsey but gets outboxed by Tunney. Foreman would have had trouble against any good/very good fighter with movement, his fair shre of skill and a jab.

ps marciano is 3-0(3kos) against fighters at least 6'3 + 220lb and over. He fought big men.
