Actually Gassiev is a large guy, there are pics of him with Wlad and he doesnt look much smaller. I think he could do well at HW.
A lot less effectively. Top 15 I guess but not much higher. Although people forget that Usyk-Gassiev was considered a 50-50 fight at the time.
Yes, he's essentially a heavyweight, and has been slowly thickening as he's gotten older. It's cute that people still think that just because you cut to 200 you're some sort of midget, but the fact is Gassiev could fight at HW without bulking up and still not find himself outsized.
IMO hed fare better at HW than if he stayed at CW, against everyone besides Usyk, AJ, and I think Hunter Jr. Could give him major issues. Him vs Wilder.... Whoever lands first though id favor Wilder as his chin is MUCH more proven against HW punchers. His power will carry up with him 100% IMO, maybe even improve. His raw power has never been in question, he can bomb anyone out from CW through HW if he lands. Against HW's I think he would have a much easier time landing as they are usually less mobile and more flat footed and stationary than most CW's. Oh, forgot Fury and Whyte. Have to favor Whyte as hes more proven at the weight but I think Fury could potentially be a nightmare for Gassiev and I'd favor Fury to stop him late. I have a funny feeling if he and Miller fought he'd decapitate Miller and fedex his head onto another continent. Miller is tailor made for someone like Gassiev, a come forward plodder. Gassiev would land a massive orbital bone fracturing counter on him IMO.
I dont know what Cheavon Clarke's plans are in regards to turning pro, but if he does I think he would be very bad stylistically for Gassiev. His foot speed and explosiveness on top of him being the significantly shorter fighter -- which would add leverage to his shots -- he's a guy I think could potentially and surprisingly shockingly KO Gassiev early. I think Tahiti could be a big problem for the Gass man too at CW.
Everyone is entitled their own opinion and what's so great is that everyone sees the same thing from different perspectives. That's what makes these speculation type threads so good, the differing dialogue is great. That said, IMO from what I PERSONALLY SEE, Gassiev is as big a puncher as anyone in boxing. In regards to straight up raw power, IMO hes at the pinnacle of the sport in that regard along with Wilder and Joshua. People might not agree with me, but thats what my eyes see and that's what my eye test tells me. I think he unquestionably becomes a top 10 HW and possibly top 5. Since the Usyk loss I think he has become one of the most underrated fighters in boxing. What a shame. And from all accounts, as a man and human being he is as genuinely good a dude you can find in boxing.
