You can also say, Louis never faced an outstanding Heavyweight boxer like Tunney. Billy Conn a Light Heavyweight ( proved that fact) was beating Louis, until he decided to get careless, and wanted to knock Joe out. If he stayed away from Louis in the last round he would have won. Two Great Irish Boxers.

IMO, against old Louis, Tunney would do decently. I'm still going with Louis for the win, though.

Tunney would beat him. A smarter fighter than Walcott, faster, better conditioned. Would have diced that Louis up.

Well, truth be told Joe Louis actually did fight better boxers then Tunney with success JJW, Ezzard Charles, Max Schmeling we’re all better tactical operators by far in my opinion. Tunney does not impress on film I don’t know why he’s so highly regarded personally.

The Louis-Conn bout was a master class by Conn indeed but we can’t forget the fact Joe Louis purposefully drained himself to not appear like a bully and fought as such I’d also point you to the second bout, there was only so long Conn could run before Louis caught him when he wasn’t pity draining himself.

I pick Tunney to beat Louis, and then Louis beating him in the rematch.

That was done quite a while ago, with all the uproar you could expect from this forum.
