Young of course sent foreman in to semi retirement, lost to Ali I which people claim should have won, then had a close losing fight to Norton. If young had faced frazier in say 76 how would he have done then? Would he have had a relatively easy win or would Joe have had enough fire left to beat young?
Fergy, You need to slow down a bit, at this rate of new thread creations you would have used up all possible permutations of the entire history of heavyweight boxing within a week. Sometimes, less is more.
Lol I know blackcloud. My wife would agree, I tend to go over board a bit when I get something in mind. Point taken mate
I wasn't complaining old chap as you make some interesting topics. I was more concerned that you burn yourself out very quickly then we are all left here asking ' what happened to fergy ' and meanwhile you are sitting at your laptop thinking ' i have run out of conversation ' , lol.
Ah ah I no mate. Thanks for the compliment. I shall reign my self in aBit for my own sanity blackcloud though.
Yet another excellent thread from you,Fergy. I've often thought about this one. After Manila I reckon Jimmy would be able to beat Joe by a close decision.
Thanks stevie mate. Out of the big guys frazier and young would have been a interesting fight I believe. It's all about timing I suppose they missed out on meeting. I think a prime Joe would have struggled a bit with Jimmy before catching up with him later rounds. But by 76 while still close im with u that it's a point win for young.
Young trained at Joes gym so I don't think they would have fought, but I am a huge young fan, so even though I think its a tough matchup for Jimmy I would still go with him to win.
Why choose a retired and shot Frazier? After Manila Joe was really retired aside from his ill advised comeback vs Cummings. Joe would not beat any live contender.
I chose this Joe to draw comparison to how young had handled foreman at much the same time. Young v prime frazier. How's that go?
I was sure that prime Joe v young had probably been discussed before perry, that why mentioned this frazier, to see what people may have thought how it would play out.
Joe was diminished enough that Young would probably be able to box more comfortably than if Frazier was near is peak. I doubt Frazier would have been able to sustain the sort of pressure that would be necessary to grind Jimmy Young down into a fine powder. Young by decision.
