    AB-SOL-LUTELY!!!
Put some of these last 20-30 years guys back in time and see what they could do circa 1936-1942.
You can go on and on with this as I've previously said. :D

With a modern diet, training et al, he would be a 6' 6" 250lbs monster!

That's what I agree with. If Louis was so good back then though, with modern sports science he would have been 10x better.

With that thinking, then Sugar Ray Robinson, Roy Jones Jr., Mike Tyson, and Lennox Lewis would all be bums.

Fighting is the drawback sport in conditions make great fighters not
solely based on athleticism the talent pool for football and basketball is greater
The best athletes don't want to be boxers anymore The talent pool has shrunk
a 100 tears ago there was a boxing club on every street corner a big 250 lb
guy cant move any better now then 50 years ago still off balance and tripping
over his own feet Can't throw a pure punch with his body weight if they try
to do that they will tip over Cause laws of physics won't allow then to maintain balance when they extend their body past a certain point

Perhaps. But I thought that these head-to-head discussions assume that we just throw the guys in time machines and have them fight with their same skills and talent?

What rules do you use then, because the sport was not the same in the 30s as it is now?

The reality is if a Joe Louis were around today, he would be 3/4 generations on from The Brown Bomber. You would figure for a fighter to stand out like Joe did back then, he would now be 6'5"/6'6" and 250lbs now a days. Imagine that with the speed and power Joe had...

Of course in this era an athlete like that would be very unlikely to choose Boxing. I am guessing he would be winning Super Bowls.

Honest question: How many 6'+/ 205-lb+ men could move around the ring fluidly, jab on the move, and throw coordinated combinations with power in Louis' era? How about 6'3+/225-lb+ men?

I am sure that we could improve some aspects of Joe Louis today, but the mythical 225lb super Joe Louis, is sort of asking for the best of both eras.

If he had been brought along today, we would loose some of the social elements and career factors, that made him great in the first place.

Ultimately it is probably best to work with the one version of Joe Louis, that we know was possible, i.e the real one.

That's possible, but he'd be WAY less dominant.

Dangle the money champs make these days , put him in state of the art 8 week training camps for just two fights per year and he would be unstoppable.

Who would he have to beat- minus K2- from this era to collect all the belts.

    Shot Byrd
    Sam Peter
    Haye
    Valeuv
    Chageuv
    Sultan

    A cake walk.
