How would Joe Mesi do today?

I enjoyed watching Jirov, his grinding, relentless, attrition style was fun to watch @ cruiserweight.
That being said, he was nothing more than a stepping stone @ heavyweight with his only notable showing being Mesi.

Doesn't change the fact that he was more skilled than any currently active heavyweight other than Fury & Usyk..

 

He was skilled, but just didnt have the firepower @ heavy.
I haven't seen the Mesi match since it aired but I remember Jirov swinging for the fences looking for the ko and dropping Mesi what, 2-3 times?
One thing Jirov didnt lack was heart.

As some have pointed out, he would be a star on the American domestic scene.

He would badly stopped by anyone in boxrec's top 15.

It has been pointed out that he went life and death with Jirov and Barret. But let's add one more context. The era that he fought in was so poor that AUDLEY HARRISON and DOMINICK GUINN were supposed to be its saviors, along with Mesi.

Really take the time to wrap your head around that. Mesi, Harrison, and Guinn were the best things going in the division.

This is a controversial area. A few think that is great. More think that it is awful. Most think that it is somewhere in between. As is usually the case, it will probably be partially decided in hind-sight. But one has to be a complete git not to know that this era, for any and all its faults, is light years better than immediate post Lennox Lewis era, when the world was waiting for Mesi, Harrison and Guinn to save us from Johnny Ruiz and Chis Byrd's fading ghost.

Forgot to mention that I have mad respect for the guy, both as a tough fighter, and as a guy who eventually made a good life for himself, I believe in law enforcement. He just wasn't that good.
