How would Ken Norton fair if he was around today ?

Yet all of those have a punch resistance better than or at least as good of Norton's. It's easy to pick apart his opponents, but a shot Williams, old undurable Foley, freezing Terrel and Chuvalo isn't exactly the stuff of legends either. It's the way in which he beat them that shows his greatness.

But that's not really relevant here.

As Magoo said, Norton is looking at a virtually impossible stylistic matchup to overcome. Never say never in boxing, but if i could get odds as much as 2:1 in Vitali's favor, i'd still lay down some money on him winning.

 

So I guess guys like Sam Peter, Larry Donald, Vaugh Bean, and Ross Purrity are easy to KO? Not.

Now you say Krik Johnson was 60 pounds over weight? You're credibility is taking a hit. More like 30 pounds if Johnson weighed in without heavy clothes on.

Face facts Power Puncher, Vitlai is the best in the sport at stopping his man, and its a mix of power, aggression, skill, and stamina that does the trick.

Oh, and no man has out pointed him as a pro. At best Vitlai lost two majority rounds. He remains the most dominant heavyweight on a rounds won to rounds lost ratio ( 150-6 or if you prefer 149-7! )....towering on the score cards over the prime Ali or Holmes, who as we know dropped rounds and had fits to lesser men than your typical Vitlai K title opponent.

I think put vitali in the 70s era and he would struggle !! i think Vitali is a VERY good heavyweight though!

 

The "Johnson and William's were overweight!" **** gets old. They were fat in some of their biggest fights, and neither was incapable of delivering damned good performances while chubby, ala to the 80's heavyweight scene.

William's was at one of his lowest weights in the past five years or so when he was just knocked out in his last fight. And he was all of five pounds heavier against Vitali then he was against Tyson, 265 compared to 270 pounds.

 

Johnson's weight was not an issue. He was done in 1.5 rounds, and hardly winded.

But saying either one of them couldn't fight and fight well overweight is ridiculous. William's has ALWAYS been fat.

 

Norton would **** his pants and freeze in the ring with the "K" brothers..... But, Norton could beat or handle the rest of the modern day lot.....:hat

I loved Ol' Jerry Quarry, but goddamn, he loved to get beat up by "A" grade heavyweights.... And, if Quarry were primed today, he'd be killed by any of the Russian cannons that are on the playing field right now..... Quarry at 6' 0" tall and 198 to 207 pounds, just wouldn't hack it for very long.....

I've been too critical of Jerry Quarry in the past, but, I can explain that... Jerry Quarry had good skill, power & technique... However, he was just a normal 6' 0" tall and roughly 200 pounds..... When Jerry Quarry fought other guys between 188 to 205 pounds, he generally looked and fought well, and won..... But when Jerry boy started fighting these guys 210 pounds and upward, he began running into trouble... Especially the 210+ pounders with skills and power.... In truth, Jerry Quarry was a small heavy..... The late 1960s and mid 70s were a bad time for Jerry Quarry to make his mark on the scene.... Peace...

Any bout w/ Norton is going back to footwork. If somebody backs him up, he's in a lot of trouble in there. He has to go forward to be effective and is probably on par with a Tyson in that department.

I think he gets backed up by the Klitschko's & he won't be slipping punches from a distance. He'll be on the end of them.

Actually, Kenny gets backed up by Peter & maybe even guys like McCline, the 2nd half of the bout anyway. I even think a guy like Haye would be a dangerous fight for him.

 

Your assuming Vitali hits harder than Ali/Holmes, your also assuming because the 2 biggest hitters in Shavers/Foreman put Norton away that the far far lighter hitting Vitali would. The stylistic nature is Vitali fights like a poor mans Ali and maybe hits a bit harder, but not by much. If Norton can beat ALi he is at least 50-50 against Vitali, its not hard to comprehend.

 

You listed some of Ali's less impressive wins but past prime Williams, Folley, Terrell and Chuvalo still trump Vitali's best wins :yep And you can say some of Ali's opponents were past prime but all were younger and in better shape than Vitali's best wins :yep

Well if Audley Harrison, Sinal Sam, Nate Tubbs blew those men out the water in a few rounds I suppose the big huge hitting monster that is Vitali does it in 1-3rounds? Oh wait....
