How would Langford/Greb have gone?

    A battle of two of the greatest and most active prize fighters in the history or the sport...What are the historian's points of view?

    Anything 175 and above I'd take Langford. Anything 168 and below I'd probably take Greb.

    It is imposible to say for sure.

    What I will say is that Langford did better against common oponents even when past his best.

    Very interesting fight ,I wonder why it hasnt come up before? I would tend to go with Langford by dec.

    Well Greb beat Flowers once, and was shot in the last couple losses.

    Yes.
    Langford did do better against Flowers and Norfolk. I guess Greb went tooth and nail with Norfolk in two vicious fights...and the three with Flowers problably went along those lines as well...Where I guess, Langford just blasted them (I did read that Norfolk hurt Langford in the first round of their fight).
    Anyhow common opponents can give you something to go on when assessing match-ups...BUT it is not necessarily a good predictor. (Exp. Hagler/Hearns, Hearns did much better against common opp)
    Re this match-up in the past, I've assumed Langford, problably by KO due in fact to the way he dispatched Norfolk...Greb wasn't even close to accomplishing anything like that according to reports. But what if Greb decided strictly to box the big hitter? Employing his ability to go in and out, not quite allowing Langford to set up...Anyway I was just wondering if anyone felt the same...it's just a guess both ways.

    My guess is that Langford was slightly better in many key areas. He was considerably more powerful.

    In a fight to the finish only one winner is possible, at any weight where Langford isn't terribley drained.

    Probably Greb has a chance to score a points victory over something like 10 rounds.

    But no matter how brave/tough someone is they are not going to like getting hit by Langford.

    Since greb had problems with norfol and flowers, i always wonder if he could really beat dick tiger head to head at 160 or 168. Dick tiger is a swarmers worst nightmare, just askk all those guys that tried to bully him on the inside.

    Tiger would destroy Greb in my view. He's the guy for Greb, more than any other fighter at 160, in my view.

    As an aside, Griffith did not bad with Tiger on the inside.

    exactly, if guys like fullmer, benvenuti, holly mims, henry hank, spider webbetc all had trouble by coming forward against dick, i think greb and lamotta would get their asses handed to them as well.
