Interesting one. I see a 'pre Steward' Lennox getting stopped by Jersey Joe Walcott, but winning the rematch under his Kronk trainer's tutelage. Ezzard Charles, like he'd do with Liston, would be problematical.

Well the thing here is that Marciano didn't face that much opposition in his early years compared too Lewis this is why I'd feel Lewis would breeze the earlier stage of Marciano's career and when we take into account Lewis with Steward, he'd be reaching his prime by about he time Marciano had his biggest fights. I agree, Charles would certainly cause problems, and Louis, although well past his best would still have more than a punchers chance.

The likelihood would be he goes undefeated, but there's also a good chance he gets sparked out along the way and has at least 1 loss.

Marciano squeezed 49 fights into just under 8 active years.

Lewis was much less active with only 44 fights in like 14 active years and had a longer learning curve to boot...not fully maturing and coming into his own until maybe his 9th or 10th year as a pro.

When Lewis got slugged out by McCall, Maricano was KOing Walcott for the undisputed World Title. So I would agree that it doesn't look good for Lewis heading into the Walcott fight. I could see Lewis rebuilding and going on to be the man though, just wouldn't be undefeated or as dominant as Marciano. Lewis is going to be Lewis, he's going to struggle, get better, be great but still occassionally have focus issues. He should come out the Champion, but he's going to be upset once or twice.

Lewis would be too powerful, strong, quick and big for any of Marciano's opponents.

Outslugged  He got stopped on his feet off 1 power punch from a 240lb puncher, a stoppage that wouldn't happen in the 50s where he'd get a shot to keep fighting!! Walcott rarely scored KOs and against the biggest punchers (Louis, Marciano, Simon) got KO'd himself

Lewis had some serious artillery but might have had trouble nailing some of those smaller crafty guys.

I'm not arguing semantics. If you want to describe what happend to Lewis in more apologetic terms that is your decision.

I think the punches Walcott dropped Louis with would find there mark and probably stop the early 90s Lewis. Walcott is a more dangerous puncher than McCall, I don't care how much McCall weighs.

Reaching with the Simon reference, Lewis would certianly KO the Walcott of the Abe Simon fight, big deal.

There were also numerous big punchers who did not KO Walcott....Louis I, Ray, Gomez, Hoff, and Hatchman..etc.

I think Lewis would likely do very well against Rocky's comp, and I am not a major supporter of Lennox! Walcott and Charles would present good fights, but I would heavily favor him over both (not to say they have not shot). Moore and an old Louis could put up stiff comp, but again I think they would fall short....Due to his longevity I would say Lewis would equal and then surpass Rocky's 49-0 only to meet Liston in 58 or 59 and get stopped!

Everyone here is making crazy assumptions that they can't back up! How do we know he grant didn't mean John Henry Lewis? Or Lewis Carroll?

Will you shut up about simon. He was not, I repeat NOT one of the biggest punchers Walcott faced. Hatchetman Sheppard, Ray, Murray were all MUCH bigger punchers than simon. Plus I already gave you a walcott-simon fight report that told you what happened. You didn't want to listen to it eh? Not to mention the fight happened in 1940, well before Walcott actually became a great fighter.

I think Lewis goes undefeated. Just too much of a size and skill difference.

Lewis was awful against smaller guys. If you took Lewis out of his comfort zone, a tempo one gear faster than he wanted to fight at he would make mistakes and lose focus. Lewis was a monster of power against slower power house types. Lewis should win against 95% of rockys guys but boy would he struggle with tough lighter fighters with higher workrates!

This is getting boring now. I think he would feast far more easily on Dempsey's opposition, though.

Walcott could take him him out, McCall and Rahman did and they are big strong men but JJW hit harder with one punch than either man. Charles would also be a danger but big size difference fighting Lennox. I think Lewis could beat most of them but even Moore had enough power to pull a KO if he was able to land effectively. I am not saying Lewis had a glass jaw but he was clean KO'd on 2 occasions but less skilled guys than the fore-mentioned.

Lewis is too big for most of the Heavy's of that era.
