There are a lot of interesting matchups that could be made at heavyweight, if only the promoters and TV networks were willing. Luis Ortiz appears to be a bona fide top ten HW and he could be in interesting, competitive matchups with people like Povetkin, Jennings, Wilder, Perez, Fury and Haye. Hopefully his next fight will be against a legit heavyweight contender.
pretty sure he beats jenni, wilder, fury and current prez. don't want to get into discussion about haye because he would never fight him and think pov has about a 66% chance to beat him imo.
Yes, Haye will match himself very carefully in his comeback and avoid any decent heavyweight contenders like Ortiz.
Ortiz looks to be taking things much more seriously than countrymen Solis, and Perez... I think he could maybe beat a few guys in the top 20, he would definitely knock Wilder out.
Out of the trio he is the lesser known but the only Cuban HW that is always in shape, that is why I like Savigne too, he is fighting at his weight and a least they given themselves the best chance to win, not like those fat perez-solis, they have no respect for their fans if they still have some, family and even themselves...
Ortiz looks to have some skills that the modern HW has lost entirely. But he is 35 years old already. And he's still yet to beat a top 15 sort of HW yet, so I will hold off on the "he beats Povetkin, Stiverne, Pulev, etc. all easy" sort of talk.
He'd be an interesting match-up for some guys like Takam for example. Also it would be interesting to see him against guys like Jennings, Stiverne or Perez. On the other hand, he doesn't bring much against the very top guys like Povetkin or Pulev. Fury or Wilder would perhaps be too tall for him, although I wouldn't bet on that. Solis beats him comfortably as long as Odlanier is even semi-fit and motivated. Ortiz perhaps arrived to the scene too late to make a significant impact, but considering that he now has some interim belt, we way see him fight Chagaev soon, and possibly Klitschko at some point (but that seems to be a long shot).
Pretty well. Kayode is absolutely awful though. He's an African statue with gloves on. But I rated Ortiz the first time I saw him a few years ago. Most of these top Cubans and top Eastern Euro/Central Asians with extensive amateur careers behind them should be taken seriously until proven otherwise.
Ortiz looks promising but he needs to fight someone better than a shot Barrett and a pretty average Kayode. Then again, at his current age, he probably never makes it as far as he could have. With him and Chagaev both holding secondary WBA titles it would make a lot of sense for a Chagaev-Ortiz match. If Ortiz was to make a respectable defense of his title and then unify or whatever a match with Chagaev would be called I wouldn't mind seeing him get a shot at Wlad.
