How would Marciano have fared in the 60`, 70`s, 80`s, 90`s or present day at heavyweight?

People need heroes, McVey. Since pre-history, people have been either taking real people and exaggerating their exploits or making them up entirely. Hercules, Beowulf, Arthur, whoever.

Rocky was indeed a hero to Italian-Americans. Why not? One of their own becoming HW champeen of the world, WITHOUT mob influence like so many other boxers of the 40's and 50's. It's nothing to be ashamed of.

Now being a nuthugger is a different story. For that story, see all the Usyk threads lately.

It also helps the guy looks like a machine on film. I have yet to see a fighter in history replicate what Marciano did to Archie Moore in round 6.

I try to look at Marciano very realistically and understand his physical limitations, but I’ll be dammed if you could name me more than 1-2 185lb and below fighters in history who would beat him at his best? That automatically makes him an all time p4p great.

if you don’t mind me saying...early in his career when he loaded up, he had ATG power in that right hand

Yes, that's a helluva KO, but later in his career, when he more elusive fighters than Layne, he turned more attrition level. And truth be told, he had been hurting Layne all fight. (Hey Rex: keep that left a little higher than your hip and don't lean to the left)

Usyk is probably 220+ right now. It wouldn't prove anything regarding 185lb Marciano.
He is 6'3+ and a boxer type so I see much more similarites to Holyfields move to HW than with Marciano or even Haye.

Of course Usyk will probably not be able to use the same methods to "aid his transition to HW" as Holyfield but still I expect him to be successful, he's not that small and very skilled. The modern HWs are mostly uncoordinated and stiff.
I think for every pound and inch larger than Lennox Lewis/Buster Douglas (the biggest truly skilled and conditioned heavies) Size you see an unproportional drop off in coordination and conditioning.

I've no problem with people having heroes, I had them too when I was young, boxers Dempsey,Ali, Louis.
No mob influence? Rocky was managed by Al Weill who was in Frankie Carbo's pocket, and the match maker at MSG Rocky was friendly with Carbo too. I don't suggest any of Rocky's fights were not on the up and up but he knew all the "wise guys" and enjoyed some of their company.

Do you think the Usyk threads have been hero worship? I thought they were pretty balanced myself.

Rocky targeted Layne's mid- riff ,Goldman said it was his weakness.
Goldman told Rocky to target Layne's mid-section he handled Cesar Brion and noticed that when Brion fought Layne, Rex had a weak belly .He said to Rocky.
"You can slow this guy down by going to the midsection"."Cesar couldn't do it but you're stronger ,I want you to get inside and pound his gut until he's ready to be taken". Great corner instruction which Rocky followed,he gradually broke the Mormon boy down.

Explain to me, you as a complete novice who has never been in the Ring , you dont even know how to wrap hands, ever, not even on the High School level, how is Marciano going to "bust up " Wilder ? How is he going to overcome a undefeated 39 ko out of 40 fights 6'7 athletic freak with a endless gas tank, a great jab when he elects to use it, way underrated Ring IQ, good chin and genuine one punch KO power ? Marciano coming straight for him plays right into Wilders right, no ifs or buts ......Marciano could not get away from Grandpa Louis's jab ......Wilder's would cut him to ribbons without breaking a sweat and the right out of now where is putting him to sleep...........when was the last time marciano laid out a undefeated 6'3 235 pound skilled Southpaw with a extensive Amateur record on top of it......it would be one of the most un competitive matches ever seen while the little Roman keeps walking into shot after shot except this time it aint coming from a fighter who is stone old and has 250k miles on the clock.

Wilder beats Marciano 10 out of 10, there is zero argument except Italian nostalgia against it.

Every Italian American in the 40-60's knew someone in the Cosa Nostra.

The Usyk threads have been non stop nut huggery before but certainly after the Gassiev KO. Like I said, Intentional Butt ADMITTED to his nuthuggery....and he's the guy who had a bug up his ass after Spence' s last win....accused me of being a "fanboy"!
