How would Martinez do in the 80's

He could have been a threat surely in the 80's , Martinez vs Hagler would be fight of the century

 

In the 80's? Probably coke, breakdance, wear ugly clothes, listen to **** music...and sport a mullet. Oh, boxing wise...my bad..

 

Hagler would beat that ass...

Hagler, Hearns, McCallum, Nunn, and Kalambay would all beat him. He'd be a good fighter though in the division, just not "the man."

 

I don't see how he beats Mike McCallum, one of the best technicians the middleweight division has ever seen. Nunn would be a tall mountain to climb too. The Hagler of the sibson/first hamsho fights was as sharp as a razor. I have trouble seeing sergio winning rounds off of him.

 

Martinez wouldn't be an easy fight for most even if he is the underdog.

But Martinez is very good at improving on his weaknesses and to me seems to come in each fight better and better. So I think with the level of competition in this era, he would have adapted more and to a higher level, guy is a natural athlete.

 

Id favor Hagler,Hearns,Nunn over Martinez but he would be competetive.. I even think hed give Hagler a good fight, could be Nunn on an off night.. Hearns more times than not kos or outboxes Martinez but hes got a punchers chance there too.... And i think hes good enough to get a win here a loss there vs the likes of McCallum,Kalamby.... Id pick him over still green Benn,Watson, Eubank,Graham(would be close but likee Martinez by ko)... Also pick him over Barkley, and a late 80s Duran, although i think an early 80s Duran (the one who fought Hagler,beat Moore) might beat Martinez or pickem...... I might give Martinez the edge over Jackson but its almost pickem.... Martinez beats Sibson, edges Hamsho... Martinez and Roldan would be an intresting all argentine match up, if Martinez can take him past the mid rounds i like him.... More times than not Martinez whups Mugabi, however not sure about the one who gave Hagler hell...
comebacking Leonard and Martinez would be a helluva a fight,, ill go with Leonard by close decision though.

 

Martinez would have had better competition and that would make him a better fighter.

 

Solid contender type.

I think he can beat the 87' Hagler that Leonard fought, but loses to the Hagler of earlier years (especially the peak Hagler of a few years earlier).

 

Floyd woudl probably tell them to give him 50millions or no fight.
