Oh ok, lets just disregard the whole no mas fiasco and not give any credit to Ray Leonard and his phenomenal game plan to beat Duran cause Duran ate too much after the first fight. :-( Weight had absolutely nothing to do with that loss. Duran was beaten by the skills of Sugar Ray.
Haha I just dont get the excuses for the No Mas fight. Leonard was fighting a great fight tactically compared to the first time round and Duran quit cause he knew where it was going.
Roberto Duran was ferocious in the ring, In the first fight Ray Leonard doesn't even stare him in the eyes. What would cause a tremendous fearless fighter, who was coming to the end of his prime, to quit.
I mean i don't see him faring very well in that time period the only reason he is doing well now is because of how this time periods talent is, but back then he would be remembered after all these great names.
It wasn't exacly a great Duran like the first fight because Leonard wanted to get him out of shape Duran was on tonnes of diuretics and was not in great shape for that fight, does anybody see a pattern here.. Leonard dosen't really like to fight great fighters in their greatness he likes to wait till they're passed their best and then go for them... not a great champion quality if you ask me, great fighter but not one of the qualities you find admirable
Agreed. The other huge factor I see with a Mayweather facing that type of consistent high caliber competition is deterioration of his reflexes. Tough fights and lots of rounds and he absorbs more punishment against 2 or 3 of the above mentioned names than he does fighting a career of the guys he selects today. And I think he is like a Jones and once those reflexes go, the rest of his game is not good enough in there. He wins his fights via lopsided advantage in reflexes. Without that huge advantage, it changes everything and he would suffer too much damage to his hands and shoulders and it would also force his legs to decline far more rapidly. And subtract Floyd's balance from the equation along w/ deteriorating reflexes and just what does he substitute with? And now he makes those substitutions against far superior competition.
I think he woud have done fine. I don't know how he would have been able to fight Duran, Hearns, and Leonard in the 80s when he would have been at a lower weight class. I think Floyd out boxes Pryor. Pryor will send the pressure but he leaves himself open to counters. It would be a hell of a fight but I think Floyd edges it. Floyd out boxes Arguello big time. Arguello seems that he needs to be set to throw. To many angles for Arguello. Chavez beats Floyd. The style is all wrong for Floyd and Chavez has pretty good defense. I think Floyd would do better in a rematch. Whitaker vs Floyd is a close fight to me. Maybe a controversial decision for Floyd. I favor Whitaker though. Curry would be a great fight. I wouldn't be surprised if Curry pulled the upset. I think Floyd edges it. Also I don't believe Floyd would have ducked all of these fighters back in the 80s because he wouldn't have had the luxury. I doubt Floyd would have became a huge star back in the 80s so he would have to fight the best to prove his worth.
It may not be the 80's but if Floyd fought Casamayor, Tszyu, Margarito, Williams, Pacquiao, Cotto rather than going into fake retirement multiple times to duck compitition there was more than enough talent to hand Floyd multiple losses.
When ya see the list of names like that it's hard to imagine how he'd ever be champion. Obviously he would have been and some of the names he would beat, I'm not sure who and in what division.
He loses to Hearns and Leonard for certain, hard to say with Duran,he was hit and miss in the 80s,the Duran that beat Leonard stops Floyd but Duran after that probably loses,I could see Floyd beating the rest..
