In 135 and 140? Would his speed and athletism be successful in todays very good lightweight and lightwelter divisions or would his tendacy to brawl make him lose against some of the power punchers?
He would definitely be on top, at 135 or 140. Taylor had everything, the complete package. Great fighter then, great fighter now.
He would give boxing a tremendous lift because he is a true warrior in that ring. The man overshadowed Whitaker and Holyfield as the face of American Boxing during his peak (which was brief). Fastest hands ever
Do you mean if he were to fight right now, or if he were in his prime fighting now? Fighting in his condition now - not sure. Saw him in an interview and he looked wasted. In his prime he would clean house.
Meldrick Taylor would most probably win a title and go pretty much the favorite to the unification matches. Taylor was more than just flashy hands in there, he was a smooth technician and braveheart warrior but he would not produce as much effect as when he was really hit and he wouldn't take those necessary steps back... So you really can't tell for sure if he would stay on his feet against the likes of Bradley and Pacquiao if he got to get in trouble, twice down against Glenwood "the real beast" Brown. Tricky business to match these guys across the sands of time but Meldrick was sensational.
people forget that he was a massive guy, he was going to go to 147 in his career where he woudl of been torn up. would of beaten and unified would of had an interesting fight with hatton, bailey, hurtardo, mitchell, corley are taken apart, floyd would outbox him but boringly and prolly rubbed off quite well. moved up to welter where he prolly grabs a title but he is past his best and is beaten by the bigger guys. goes back down and losses everything.
i love this thread! great to see props for a tremendous fighter and some real objective predictions and opinions in regards to his success. I competely agree that he would dominate with the exception of pac. All i can say with certainly is FOTY but it's a toss up who wins.
Meldrick was a hell of a fighter. If anything, the man had too much heart for his own good when it came to trading, but I have no doubts that even when it did finally catch up with him, he'd have been champ at the time. Taylor vs Pac would be a classic- The camera crews would have to slow down the framerate just so we could see the punches for the round by round. :yep
taylor was great, but the chavez fight destroyed him mentally and physcally watch the doc on u tube about the fight sorry cant rember the name.any way he was great and i think he would have beaten pac,pac has fought alot of past there primes champs but he has improved alot in a year,r is it good match m,aking
