How would Mike Tysons legacy look like if he drew the color line?

Im not taking anything context out. The entire point of this thread was discussing the color line. You said specifically "Dempsey didn't draw the color line, his manager did." I merely pointed out just how wrong you were. If you want to somehow tie Harry Wills to Jack Johnson based on nothing but his skin color that doesn't make you sound any better than Dempsey. Harry Wills had wide support as Dempsey's top contender, wider than anyone else. The fact that Dempsey drew the color line against him had nothing to do with Harry Wills being like Johnson and everything to do with Harry Wills being a threat to the championship.

 

You really don't get it do you? The American public didn't want another "Jack Johnson". This mean they didn't want another black champion who was a "rebel". Do you really think they would care how Harry Wills' personality was? No, this is post WW1 from 1919-1926 we're talking about. You are acting as if this is some liberal advanced society we're talking about. People were a lot more racist than today...for Christs sake there was segregation!

Harry Wills and maybe Sam Langford were the only really good black fighter Dempsey should have fought. Not like he ducked an entire top 10 full of black fighters!

Dempsey didn't have much control over his career. His managers told him to fight and he fought. He said what he said in the paper to get approval of American society. I feel like I am repeating myself so just look at my other posts about it.
