In my opinion, Chavez was a better counter-puncher (the Ramirez fight comes to mind), and a better body puncher.......maybe he would win 1 fight in a trilogy...perhaps... But I agree with the consensus here, like EB said, as good as Chavez was, Duran was better and stronger....
I was never really impressed by Chavez, though, must admit, he must of had something, lota wins. Just because of his toughness, this would at least go to middle rds, but I think Duran would batter him badly by the end.
There is a balance. Duran might have had faster hands, but Chavez had a little better foot positioning. It would be an incredible fight. Something tells me Chavez actually becomes boxer in this fight. Hard to say who would win. Probably Duran by decision.
This would be a close match, but I think Duran was a little faster with slightly better boxing skills. If it's a toe to toe brawl, it could go either way, and Chavez would have a great chance of winning because he could work the body better than Duran could, but Roberto just was a bit more versatile with his offense and defense, whereas Julio never met a punch he could get away from.
What's this about Chavez doing the better body-work? Duran was the better in-fighter here, and every bit as good a body-puncher. It just didn't dominate his skill-set as much as it did Chavez's, that's where people are getting confused. If Palomino couldn't **** with him on the inside, Chavez wouldn't have been able to. Duran was too masterful in that area.
Chavez and Palamino are two different animals. Palamino was also ready to retire by the time he fought Duran.
Slightly outworked, outsped, outmanouvered and outpunched. I'd love to see it though. Chavez was one of the best bodypunchers, and I think he deserves the slight nod there. Though Duran seldomly neglected the body in any match. Chavez also has such a great right hand, but Durans is even better.
