Who would have won between these two if they were the same age and fought at middle, super middle or light heavy? I feel Roy`s chances would been better the higher in weight the contest was at, do you agree?
P4P Hearns was a much more proven fighter, his competition was way better than that of Jones who would have ducked Hearns I feel. I fel Ray Leonard would have had a good chance against Jones at middle (but not super middle) and Tommy met a prime Leonard at welter giving him hell until Ray beat him in the pocket something Roy could not do, but Roy would be meeting Tommy at middle or above where he was much slower, so this would help Roy a lot, Tommy was great against Hagler but got out toughed and out fought on the inside by a master at brawling in Marvin, he then fought Schuler in a devastating display of power where he knocked Schuler out with his much vaunted right hand, that`s the punch I feel he may have knocked Jones out with, Tommy used the pawing jab brilliant in fights to set up his powerful right cross, Jones never had to deal with offensive skills like that and I feel he would be out of his depth. At super middle Jones was far better than Tommy, he had slowed down as he rose to that weight and looked badly faded, Tommy`s reach may still have bothered Jones though. Before Hearns moved to super middle he fought Andries at light heavy and his body looked more defined and young than it did a couple of years later, again Tommy wasn`t that quick here so Jones would probably out point, but Hearns looked a lot sharper than he did two years later fighting Ray at super middle, Hearns fought Hill at light heavy a few years later and used a higher guard, if he had done so vs Jones at light heavy he would have given Jones a lot more problems at light heavy. Overall Hearns was better at creating openings than Jones was and this would always give him a chance even at the higher weights and stuff, I feel.
