I feel Hagler would be able to create openings better than Roy could and Roy would be too defensive to land enough. Hagler was rated No.20 by the ring magazine in a list in 1996 of the best fighters in the last 50 years, while Jones was rated lower at 43. I agree with these ratings but do you think Roy did enough after 1996 to ranked higher or ranked higher than Hagler? Who was better at middleweight also?

Jones 12-0 AND Toney would school Hagler also.

Jones UD every round and it's not even close.

Although I love John Saxon the actor, I couldn't disagree with you more here. NOBODY in history "schools" prime Marvin Hagler at middleweight. Roy does have a chance of winning a decision against Hagler. But Hagler has a good chance of outpointing or stopping Jones. (Jones would not be stopping prime Hagler). James Toney at middleweight would have virtually no shot of beating a prime Marvin Hagler. Marvin is just too skilled, too intense to lose to a fighter so prone to lapses of expenditure as Toney was. Anything Toney could do, Marvin could do better at that weight. (including his mean streak). Only Toney's excellent chin keeps him from getting stopped (probably)

Roy is not higher than Hagler. Look, most people rank Hagler with Hearns or around him and he beat Tommy, and Tommy should be ranked higher than Jones on quality of win and opposition. I always thought Tommy should be ranked over Hagler, but for the sake of argument he is not. And how would Roy be over Hagler? Hagler had title defenses and wins over greats and great fights..

I find it a really hard to pick a winner in this fight. Jones was so competitive against bigger heavyier men, so I'd pick Roy. But Marvin is the total package in a fighter.
That's like I've always felt that if Hagler and Hearns had a rematch at lightheavyweight, I think Tommy being the bigger man would have a lot better chance against Hagler than he did at 160.
I can't pick a winner but it would be fight I'd love to see.

Roy may be just naturally a little too big but I don’t think he’s ever faced as great a skilled pressure fighter as Hagler. I think Roy wins on points in fight where Hagler has his moments but just gets outboxed.

RJJ has his chance on points because of his insane speed and reflexes … but it's unlikely as Hagler is the better and more proven fighter at 160.. Hagler's resume doesn't get the credit it deserves at times .. You put up his 10 in a row list and it's pretty remarkable

I've always thought that if you could hit RJJ enough, that he was constitutionally unable to take punishment. I think that guys like Hagler are skilled enough and tough enough to survive the early storm and to land enough to make it a war in the late rounds.

This is honestly a matchup where I have difficulty picking a winner, but I'll say Hagler because of his pedigree at 160.
