How would Roy Jones jr. (who fought Derrick Harmon) handle the current LHW top 5?

Kovalev is naturally bigger than Roy.

As an aside, who are the fighters active or otherwise that you would favour over the Roy who fought Derrick Harmon?

I honestly wouldn't favour anybody today from SMW-CW over the version of Roy that fought Harmon. That's not to say that nobody could have beaten him, but I wouldn't have favoured anyone. I think if you took any version of Roy from 2001, and you'd have put him in a big, dangerous fight, then he'd have been in a completely different mindset to what he was in against Harmon. Roy went on to beat better fighters than Harmon, in easier fashion. So while I respect the T/S's question, in my opinion, he's reading far too much into things. No disrespect to Derrick Harmon, but it was a keep busy fight for Roy. His options were quite limited at the time. Roy just went through the motions. But he still looked sharp to me.

Regarding fighters of the past, obviously the great LHW's such as Spinks and Foster etc, would have been incredibly hard fights for Roy.

Yeah he's pretty old, but with the level he's fighting at currently who know's who long he'll be able to keep it going for? I only compared him with Jones in the sense that he's an athletic fighter who relies more on that than fundamentals.

I understand your point. And i have watched those fight many times, just not recently. But imagine if we could replace Harmon with Degale. It would have been a serious fight. And maybe Roy would raise level accordingly but still.

The thing is, nostalgia causes us remember things more glorious way especially when we think our old heroes. It´s very common to underrate fighters of our time and current era. Dariuz at the time was considerate top dog at 175 as well, dog that possessed serious threat to Jones jr. There were a lot of speculation what would have happened if they had met in the ring. So why not Kovalev?

RJJ is the most overhyped and overrated boxer in history and his current record speaks for itself. No boxer in history has fallen so far... from successful avoider to a get knocked out genius. I think his fans need to take a deep breath and try to keep up. Anybody very good beats RJJ at any time. Kovalev would beat any version of Roy worse than he beat Jean Pascal. RJJ fans should be studied for a greater understanding of the psychology of hero worship and denial.

No you were wrong, there is no perhaps about it. He fought bums and people in decline and wait for it.. John Ruiz. If he truly was a great boxer, he wouldn't be getting KTFO by everybody and their sister. He wouldn't be so "shot" for 10 years. He sucks. He was a one trick pony who never fought dangerous fighters in their prime. He would have been killed.

How many of those cab drivers were current, former or future World Champions? Watch this duck from Teeny who never watched Roy in his prime.

Has a basketball game and then a boxing match? He's a clown. Fighting cops? Want to see a fighter with terror in his eyes? Watch him in his disqualification performance. He is not doing anything different now. He just slowed down a little and still making poor decisions. Now though it ends with him on the canvas unconscious. And silly people argue.. well that doesn't count cause or affect his "legacy" because he had insane speed and beat a sluggish toney and a young hopkins.

Roy was a very good fighter, but you cannot duck like he did and be considered truly great just because of how he looked in the ring against bums. Lucian Bute looked like an ATG at times too. Roy basically set the blueprint which Mayweather was to follow.

Exactly but Mayweather I think consistently fought better competition. And he never got his head knocked off like Roy does every other fight.
