How would Roy Jones jr. (who fought Derrick Harmon) handle the current LHW top 5?

Wow. The stupidity is flowing strong in this thread. Especially considering Roy arguably looked at his very best in his greatest win.

A sluggish weight affected Toney. Meanwhile how many times has Roy been just straight up knocked out or fought a bum? Too often huh? This is a great fighter? Or some sort of best? Nah, he sucks, sorry.

Ok so you were alive when Roy beat Toney.. Between diaper changes...I will from now on refer to you as Tweeny instead of Teeny.. And until you quit ducking my question, I will no longer give a tweeny any more of my time.

Its quite easy to watch Roy in his prime, you simply go onto youtube and click on one of the videos. Roy fought Toney for instance over 21 years ago now, so I'm sure most people on this forum did not watch it live, that doesn't mean peoples opinion of him are not valid.

I would hate to think most people on a boxing forum didn't watch Jones vs. Toney live.. Maybe that is what is wrong with this place...

Way too easy to discredit Jones after 21 years of BS excuses surrounding that fight. Before it played out, I am sure many here would have had Toney winning as many experts did.</p>

It was a very dangerous fight for Roy at the time. And the credit he doesn't get by people that were not even watching then sickens me.

I wasn't around to see Ali-Foreman either, but I can still give credit where it is due.

I was 8 in 1994, and many people on this forum were probably younger. Toney was a very good win, (one of the few in RJJs career), but lets not go crazy, Toney wasn't that good himself, he went on to lose numerous times himself in or close to his prime sometimes against less than stellar opposition.

When was Toney ever dominated like he was against Roy? Roy was also the first to beat him.

Great win IMO. I am not going into a debate on how good Roy was. Anyone with a pair of eyes can click on a YouTube video and realize he was a special talent.. I am not going crazy, but to insist he "sucked" and just beat cab drivers is rubbish.

I never said he sucked exactly, he was obviously a special talent, but some people try to make him out to be a top 10 ATG which he wasn't close to being.

    Selina,

Yeah, if you replaced Harmon with DeGale, I think you'd have gotten the best possible version of a 32 year old Roy. I think he'd have done his homework on DeGale and he'd have had more respect for him than what he had for Harmon.

I spend a lot of my spare time watching Roy's fights. I watched the Harmon one recently.

It's fun to speculate what may have happened with Kovalev. And I respect your opinion. I'm glad you made this thread. But again, I would say that Hall, Gonzalez and Woods were better than Harmon, and Roy seemed to be more up for those fights that were around the same time.

Who were the so called bums?

Every fighter fights lower level comp at some point.

Roy consistently beat top 10 ranked guys.

List me all of the guys from the same era, who fought in the same weight classes, who has a superior resume to Roy's.

Let's look at things logically Einstein.

Yes, he had a semi-pro game of basketball in the afternoon, before he toyed with Eric Lucas at night.

    Eric Lucas:

A solid fighter who mixed at world class level, with decent wins over Catley and Sheika.

So how can a guy who plays basketball before then treating Lucas as nothing more than a sparring session, be overrated??

I'll let you try and figure it out.
