How would Roy Jones jr. (who fought Derrick Harmon) handle the current LHW top 5?

This has to be one of the biggest myths in boxing.

    1. He didn't duck.

    2. He did not only look good against bums.

This has been exposed time and again.

Thinking is clearly not your strong point.

Roy had more than a few very good wins.

Toney was truly a great fighter, but as everyone knows, he had discipline problems. Yes, his form was patchy. But look at his resume. Wins over: Nunn, Johnson, McCallum, Barkley, Littles, Jirov and Holyfield etc. Yet you're telling us he wasn't that good? Get real.

It depends on what criteria you use.

Personally, I don't think Roy has the resume to be placed that high. So if you use conventional criteria, he doesn't make it. But I would say that when Roy was at his peak in his mid 20's, he was one of the greatest fighters who's ever lived. How many guys would be favoured big over Roy, from MW-LHW in the history of the sport? Not an awful lot of guys I wouldn't have thought.

I didn't mean to imply you said Roy sucked... That was Tweeny. You sure rushed in to support him though. I don't even have my own top 10, and if I did, Roy wouldn't be in it due to his resume... Head to head though? He gives anyone hell from 160-175.

Seriously? , fmj has far greater than a solid resume, going off wins and losses, he has an undeniable atg resume, this cannot be argued..

    Now to the topic,

Roy was one of the flashier fighters in history. The fact of the matter is, he had so much flash, he truly had more flash than substance..

He was great for his very limited skills, I know his die hard fans cannot accept he was vastly under skilled compared to say like trip G at mw and Kovalev at lhw.

I don't see any version of rjj being able to hang with GGG nor Kovalev. His greatest wins were against Toney and hops but let's be honest. .

Toney walked in to that fight in terrible fighting shape and hops wasn't close to the fighter he became. Hops was truly a fighter learning on the job.

Rjj really reminds me of nonito flash donaire.
The biggest difference being when nonito moved up every time he would fight the very best fighter , he never moved up and fought a ruiz level title holder, ruiz might be the biggest over achiever I've seen.

I loved rjj too when he was taking on real challenges, but that was very few and very far between. The reason flash reminds me of him is because he can look unbeatable vs even very good fighters but when taking on bigger fighters that are top notch he gets taken apart

Roy went from 1989 to 2004 without the chin failing him at all, mixed in were all kinds of big punchers that couldn't detonate it. And on top of his speed (to avoid being hit at all), and his offense, there is nothing to suggest your comment.

Disclaimer: I like Kovalev and believe he's the real deal, but you gotta give Roy more credit than that.

I do give Roy a lot of credit. He had pretty good hand speed and athleticism, he is extremely knowledgeable about roosters and game fowl. He owns a lovely ranch in Pensacola and I enjoy his commentary work for HBO, too.
