My friend brought this up and by saying he thinks Fraizer would have gone 3 for 3 in the trilogy if he had kept half his eyesight. Personally, I dont agree but im wondering what you guys think?

Also this may have been done before, but iv never seen a thread on this topic.

I think Frazier just might outlast Ali in Manila if he had his eyesight intact throughout the fight. It would then give Joe the edge 2-1. (Ali even said afterwards that Joe quit right before he did. That bout was literally whoever was the "last man standing" would win! A war for the ages!!)

Pretty telling how close Manila came to being Frazier’s night IMO that we can safely surmise two good eyes would’ve won him the fight. There’s no overstating how important it is to clearly see the punches coming. I have little doubt he wins the rubber match if he could see adequately.

However, I’m equally sure he loses Super Fight II. That wasn’t an issue two good eyes could’ve solved - Ali hugged & held him to the point of shamelessness & won as a result.

It would have changed nothing. Ali was Joe Frazier’s superior as a fighter, but lost one fight and almost lost another because Frazier was fueled by abject hatred and had something to prove which put them on even terms.

I've often heard the story that Ali was about ready to quit in the 15th round in Manila but Frazier beat him to it. Is there any truth to that story? Has Ali ever said that?

The rumor may have started rampant circulation in the fan's voices after Thomas Hauser's book on Ali, and Wali Muhammad's account of such, but Dundee himself denies that it ever happened. I've seen lies on both sides of the argument, but I'd likely bet on Angelo's account- Especially considering that Ali has agreed on such.

2 good eyes and I think he may have taken the 3rd fight. Futch had said that the bad eye had forced Joe to fight more standing strait instead of staying in his crouch which in turn made him easier to to hit.
Frazier never wins the 2nd because of Tony Perez complete incompetent handling of the fight (not surprised)

Still would have won the first and lost the second since his eye had no bearing on those fights. Third would be interesting and I think with both eyes he would have been able to outlast Ali. Remember he was doing well in the fight before his one good eye closed after that he was pretty much a punching bag for Ali but was still in the fight whereas Ali was exhausted. Being able to see i think he would have been able to put more pressure on Ali and eventually make him fold as he almost did the in the actual fight.

I tend to think the notion Ali was about to quit, while plenty plausible, has the air of a good fictional story about it to add drama. Dundee however is a proven liar.

Completely agree on both fights. I may even be a little more confident than you are that Frazier wins Manila with his eye intact. It is what it is.

Would be interesting what happened next. Ali would hound Frazier for a rematch but I think the once & future king would have gone out a winner & retired one fight sooner.

I might be reading it wrong but it looks to me like your first sentence contradicts the rest of your post?

You right I'll edit it. I meant the first and second fights not the first and third fights

It could've happened, but I ain't betting on nothing. Remind me what Dundee has lied about, cause I don't exactly doubt that either. Lol

Will go with the consensus he wins the first and third fight, but still loses the second.

Denied loosening the ropes in Zaire, & when Ali’s jaw was broken vs Norton.
