But the way Dempsey destroyed Willard, it would've been a first round stoppage today. So you'd hope today's champs would be good enough to better that effort.

 

Willard was like a Jameel McCline in his day. Decent here & there with reasonable power but not quite there with the best of their respective eras.

 

Mike wouldn't struggle at all and neither would Jack.

 

Willard was slow & gawky with skinny legs for such a big guy. No one can question the man's heart though, Dempsey knocked him down 7 times in the first round, broke ribs & knocked some teeth before the fight was stopped.

Vitali fights great against agressive swarmers with power. Kirk Johnson fought that way against him & so did Peter. Johnson especially, was known for his speed, accuracy & power. He tried to take the fight to Vitali & dictate the pace but VK shut him down.

 

He would DEMPSEY ROLL all their asses in a display of major, major ****ing pwnage.

 

Pre-Douglas Tyson would be an interesting match-up for 2002 Vitali.

Agreed. People will make a big deal about Dempsey's relatively small size, but he annihilated much bigger men in his day.

You're right - but it's amazing how many don't think this applies to the HWs.

To answer the topics title - and I have nothing agianst JD -
he wouldn't do well at all. Just too small for the top HWs today. Now no doubt Jack could be CW champ today.

Sure, a mythical 235# Dempsey could be HW champ in this era... Then again a Wlad K with a better chin would be virtually invincible yesterday and today :yep

 

He would knock all out. We don't even have a champ. He never had trouble with bigger fighters, so it would not be an issue.

 

I've been around ESB long enough to know better than to get into debates w/fans that overrate the HWs of part eras - or are dismissive of the recent/current era.

But let me ask you one question. How many "big" fighters did Jack fight that were of LL or K bros size and skill level?
