The exact Dempsey back then would probably be the undisputed lhw or cw champ today. Dempsey with all the advantages of today probably would rule the hws. People make too much out of size imo.

Spot on, Dempsey is overrated and refused to fight an "Old" Jack Johnson!!

    Think about this:

Dempsey destroyed a giant in Jess Willard. Granted, Willard wasn't the greatest champ in history, but he was bigger and weighed much more than Dempsey. Dempsey would do the same thing to all the modern heavyweights... not just some of them, all of them. His style of constantly rushing in, throwing his trip hammers would destroy ALL of the modern heavys, especially the much taller Klitschko brothers. It'd be Dempsey vs. Willard all over again multiple times.

A focused Dempsey would perform very well..I wouldn't like his chances against Vitali, but he'd have at least a live shot at everyone. Here's some sparring footage against Big Bill Tate, perhaps his favorite sparring partner- he had the footwork and head movement to get inside on bigger fighters even if the footage of the actual bouts resemble streetfights more than traditional boxing matches.
