  1. Alternate history thread...

April 1, 2000 October 14, 2000 Chris Byrd WBO American

    April 29, 2000 April 22, 2001 Lennox Lewis IBF & WBC British

August 12, 2000 March 3, 2001 Evander Holyfield WBA American

What would have happened this decade if the Klitchkos hadnt existed?

Whomever Don King productions had under contract.
The only guys not signed up with him are/were Lewis and the Klitschkos. Pretty much every other name fighter, aside from Tua, was w/ King.

Now this is an interesting thread! :good

With no Vitali, Lennox Lewis still wouldn't have faced Byrd. I believe he was considering Joe Mesi and I think Williamson as opponents sadly enough, he would have likely blown either out in a meaningless fight. Jones Jr. /Lewis was still on the table for Novemeber and it may have actually happened without Vitali there to screw it all up. However, in all likelyhood Jones may eventually back down and Lewis would end up fighting Kirk Johnson instead before finally retiring.

Denied by Lewis, Chris Byrd would probably defend the IBF strap against Samuel Peter and Calvin Brock in very interesting fights. He would reign as long as his body held out. Maybe Povetkin would eventually dethrone him either way. Chageav and Sultan would still get their hands on the titles and probably go through with their planed unification bout at some point.

I think Lewis would have stayed around for a few more fights, maybe cleaning up Jones, Mesi, Johnson, I still dont think he would have faced Ruiz or Byrd, for whatever reason. Once Lewis retires and the belts are up for grabs, i think its limbo time for awhile, nobody really dominating, you would have byrd and ruiz near the top, then i think Brewster would come along and start to rule for a bit, then he would still wind up getting beat by white wolf, but i think Chagaev would start being the dominant one actually.... and now with Haye at heavyweight I think the top dog at heavyweight would be between a Chagaev thats on a winning streak and obviously Haye, with of course Solis, Boytsov, and Povektin still on deck waiting to get in a featured fight with a real contender or champion. Also, without Wlad or Vitali in the picture, i think Adameks chances at wreaking some havoc in the division increase a hundred fold.

  6. Theres always the theory that champions are made by circumstance. At the moment the idea of beating one of the brothers and then rematch beating them and then beating the other one and then rematch beating them is ridiculous. Its like putting a really good guy out there with 3 clones of himself and having to beat all of them in succession. I honestly believe if they hadnt been around someone else would have obtained the position of #1 and then consolidated it...perhaps growing as a fighter along the way. I dont have anything against the brothers to be honest, just the scenario its created to have them there in the first place.

Lewis would have likely stayed around until he had a tough fight/loss. A LEwis-Tyson rematch may well have happened in 2004 if not we'd get Lewis-Williams. LEwis-Jones may have been quite likely in 03. Does Sanders get a title shot? I'm not sure. Toney-LEwis could have happened some time around 2004-2005. I'm not sure who'd dethrone Byrd, or who'd Lewis would lose too or if he'd retire soon after 03 anyway

Ironicaly we might have seen a lineal champion emerge post Lewis because Don King controled most of the beltholders.

That aside it would have been a prety dire era.

About a third of the fans on this forum would probably have comited suicide.

I belive with out the Kilts, the divsion would look even worse with out them.

They are a GOOD thing in this division.

King's game of musical chairs between Ruiz, Byrd, Golota, McCline, TOS, and others were awful. Byrd vs. Williamson was perhaps the worst title fight I have ever seen. Rhaman looked like he tanked it vs. Ruiz.

Without the Klitschko, the politics and talent level would be rather poor.

On the flip side, Chagaev, Ibragimov,Chambers, Povetkin, and others could have produced some competitive match ups
