How would the theoretical fight between Larry Holmes and Tyson Fury end?

Cooney for the Holmes fight was 225.5 pounds and was measured by ABC Wide World of Sports at 6'6" and 3/4 so almost 6'7. Fury is a legit 6'9" tall and 270 pounds. That is a big difference. Cooney also at the time of the Holmes fight was not completely developed (he never reached this) had a 13 month layoff and was abusing alcohol and cocaine for the whole 5 month training camp leading up to the fight. He wasn't mentally or physically ready to fight a guy like Holmes at that stage in his career he really needed 3 or 4 more fights to gain experience. Cooney also did not know how to properly clinch, hold, or tie up. Despite all this Cooney went 13 rounds with Holmes and Larry wasn't interested in a rematch the Cooney fight took a lot out of him mentally and physically. Compare that with Fury who was really dialed in for the Wilder rematch and who most sane boxing fans had winning the first fight despite Fury clearly not being close to 100%. Fury also knows how to clinch and hold or apply his weight on his opponent when needed. A 100% dialed in Fury would give Holmes a whole lot of problems.

 

Fury is not as good as you think he is. Beating wilder in the manner that he did has got a lot of people seeing things that aren’t there, this will become apparent in the next couple of years to those that won’t be making excuses for how he will look against future opponents.

 

I am a former Fury doubter/hater and willing to admit that with Fury's height, reach, movement (for his size), awkward style (at times) and skills he would be a tough out for a lot of past Heavyweights. I am not a 'fan' of the guy but I have had to admit I was wrong about him (not the first time I have been wrong about a fighter in nearly 35 years of watching)
I think the more people that can come to grips with this the better. Not saying I think Fury is unbeatable but a guy his size isn't supposed to be able to do the things he has learned to do. He is much better now than he was in 2012-2013 when he looked like a clumsy oaf that had to foul, maul, and grapple opponents to death to get a stoppage. He has seriously polished his game since then. He also is open to change to fix problems/issues which takes a lot of pride for most fighters to admit. Most fighters are in complete denial look at Wilder for instance as evidence.

 

I understand, I know how you can legitimately take that position. But I added up what I see in the ring, and have always seen in the ring, his movement, power, speed, technique... and I compare it to what I’ve seen from hundreds of others across more than 4 decades, then add what I always saw in wilder and what it would take to beat that, and I come up with my position.
I’m not trying to change anyone’s views about him, I’m laying out what I think the future is going to look like.

 

Would be a close one anyway, potential scoring nightmare

 

There is a Overweight 6 foot 2 inch Mexican who was ranked number 1 at one stage in this Era He is currently rated number 4...He would have a real punchers chance against Fury...Now how would he have done against a Prime Larry Holmes or Prime Tyson.!!!

 

Loved watching Holmes fight but I feel Fury gets the better of him on points.
Both can get up when put down this would have been good to watch.

 

Fury would give any Heavyweight, past or present, plenty of problems Rico. I was only trying to make the point about physical size although it seems I was a bit wide of the mark.
