The top 5 in Ali`s era can match or outdo today`s top 5, Holmes era while champ was weaker than today`s era and Ali and Frazier`s era.

:nono: Wrong. Williams had him beat by four inches ..and Holmes absolutely bested him with the jab. Come correct next time.

To be fair though, Williams did much better than he was ever meant to in that scrap.

He did. That isn't, however, germane to whether or not Holmes outjabbed him (which he did)

People haven't evolved, technology has. For example, take Jessie Owens, today's record isn't that much faster. Back in his day the shoes were heavier and the starting blocks different. Those slight differences are the only difference in today's speed compared to yesteryear. Cycling, skiing,, swimming etc. all are faster due to technology not human evolution.

More than .7 seconds has been knocked off the world record since Jesse Owens. That isn’t down to starting blocks and shoes... training methods are improving constantly and the athletes are getting bigger, stronger and faster as a result. In the same timespan the marathon world record has been improved on by 25 minutes and the unequipped bench press WR has been improved on by 50%. The only “technology” I would say that is playing a significant role in that type of dramatic progression is the prevalence of PEDs.

Wrong! In regards to Owen's, the track is very different as well. All those factors make runners faster, nothing more.

I’m no expert, so I’m stuck using only logic, but .7 seconds is half a blink, which could be attributable to the much larger rewards now being offered to exceptional runners, who can now have careers doing nothing but running. As far as marathon times are concerned, there’s a native tribe in the northern mountains of Mexico who are churning out world level champions like a factory, and have been for centuries, they just happen to be competing only recently.

.7 seconds is an absolute light years in sprinting terms. To give you an idea, in the era of electronic timing it took 34 years to move the record .2 seconds from 10.06 to 9.86 and then another 14 years to move it a further .09 seconds below 9.8. If someone were to beat the 100 meter world record by .7 seconds tomorrow from where it stands now at 9.58 would be the most monumental sporting event of the century.

As for this Mexican tribe I hadn’t heard of them and I’d love to see an article about them. As far as I know the top 10 marathon times ever have all been run by Kenyans and Ethiopians.

It's the Teramera tribe. My spelling may be wrong. Pnce De Leon was from there. They live high in the mountains. It's not uncommon for one of them
The Mexican tribe is the Terahumera tribe. These dudes can run for days. Ponce De Leon is from that tribe.

The late 70s and 80s were a very weak era in heavyweight boxing, Holmes is considered to have a very weak reign.

Fair enough but Williams was nowhere near as tall as Fury.
