He`d have to beat John Fury first though.

Wrong! In regards to Owen's, the track is very different as well. All those factors make runners faster, nothing more.
Maybe Fury can run faster than Larry then, shame his footwork isn`t better than Ali`s, despite Usyk learning better footwork with recent training methods, Napoles footwork was better than Usain Bolts, confused? Exactly.

More than .7 seconds has been knocked off the world record since Jesse Owens. That isn’t down to starting blocks and shoes... training methods are improving constantly and the athletes are getting bigger, stronger and faster as a result. In the same timespan the marathon world record has been improved on by 25 minutes and the unequipped bench press WR has been improved on by 50%. The only “technology” I would say that is playing a significant role in that type of dramatic progression is the prevalence of PEDs.
Owens record is still considered respectable today, but Bolt was much quicker partly due to how he could exploit his much longer stride due to being 6'5, something a 6'5 runner back in Owens day wouldn`t have been taught, Owens was far quicker than anyone else in his era, an exception to the rule and would be much faster if he had been born the same year as Bolt according to Michael Johnson, who copied Owen`s sprint style which nobody else was taught.

People haven't evolved, technology has. For example, take Jessie Owens, today's record isn't that much faster. Back in his day the shoes were heavier and the starting blocks different. Those slight differences are the only difference in today's speed compared to yesteryear. Cycling, skiing,, swimming etc. all are faster due to technology not human evolution.
Swimmers are far quicker because of modern training methods, their bodies are far more athletic than in past decades, swimming records have been smashed to pieces, not even close to the past.

    15 round fight?
I'm going to go with Holmes. Tough hard fought decision.

Agreed! That's why I said technology has evolved not humans.

In my humble opinion, the consensus top 3-5 ATG that ís Larry Holmes in his absolute prime, smashes Deontay 'Bambi Legs' Wilder to smithereens. Holmes had one of, if not the best jabs in heavyweight boxing history and was a tremendous counter puncher. On top of that , he had tremendous foot work, elite level stamina and a granite chin. He would throw more leather in 3 rounds than Wilder does in a whole fight. Plus, Holmes had absolutely ZERO quit in him and is one of the toughest Mutha Fukkas to ever lace up.

Fury would cause him a load of problems purely through his sheer size but, he would have to work his absolute butt off to out score and out point the Easton Assasin. I would give the slight edge to Fury but without any great confidence. Would be a battle for the ages.

The more punches you throw the more you leave yourself open to a counter and Holmes was floored by two fighters that nailed him with the right hand and that`s Wilder`s money punch, Holmes didfn`t ride shots the way Fury does.

I meant the argument about sports and athletes evolving is confusing and comparing sprinting to boxing is very complex.

Fair shout but, Holmes was a total hard ******* and although Wilder can seriously crack, he's practically thrown the kitchen sink at the likes of Stiverne in their first fight and Duhaupas who was stopped on his feet and they aren't fit to shine Holmes shoes.
