Assuming his conditioning, motivation etc were the same as on that night vs Tyson, how would he do? He really looked awesome in that fight, great jab, fast hands, very mobile, good defence, well conditioned, excellent combos, lots of heart and aggression, even showed a good chin. He was a big guy with a huge reach, I think he could have troubled a lot of the top heavyweights the way he fought that night.
that douglas was awesome. i always thought he was sort of a poor man's bowe skill-wise but more athletic. he would beat a prime foreman, a prime lewis
The Buster Douglas of "TOKYO" would have been a problem for "most" heavyweight champions in history...Buster was a determined fighting machine that night..His ultimate zenith for that fight...
Because of styles, you need to ask about specific "other ATG heavyweights". I am of the mind that Tokyo Douglas is one of the better h2h forces out there, and certainly the greatest of the class that can't compete at the ATG level under normal circumstances "but on their best night".
not very well. dempsey, louis, marciano, and frazier ko douglas by mid to late rounds ali wins a 8-4 decision. foreman wins by knock out at some point in the fight. holmes wins by clear decision. tyson loses because when he's outboxed he can't change his strategy. he doesn't go to the body as consistently as marciano or frazier. evander holyfield wins clear decision or even stops douglas late. lennox lewis is clearly outpointed until his awesome right hand ends matters. riddick bowe vs douglas would have been interesting. in summary - douglas loses to all of them except tyson. tyson was made for tokyo douglas.
So those eleven names are the only ones that can be called ATG at heavyweight? Liston, Langford, Tunney, Patterson, Schmeling, Johnson, and Norton are not even in the conversation? Or do they all beat Upset Douglas, hands down, without any room for second thought? I certainly don't think that's the case.
