I know that I am jumping into the middle of a conversation here , but I agree with the above , too many times do I hear the words 'bigger' when people mean 'heavier' and heavier outside of training doesnt mean anything.

Size should be based on heigh , reach and natural skeletal structure. Now weight alone.

A fighter like Hatton fighting at 140 lbs for his entire career give or take against Floyd who started his career at 130 lbs , this doesnt make Hatton the bigger fighter when they both fight at 147 lbs , only the heavier.

Martinez is pretty damn big for 154 but small for 160...it's tough to guage how much making 154 would be for Sergio, but for arguments sakes, lets just say he feels and performs as he typically has, Martinez would knock Mayweather the **** out within 6 rounds. It would come from a well timed shot and a left hand from hell.

Martinez doesn't need to outbox Mayweather as much as people are thinking. He needs to just go in there and land the shots we know him to throw. Pump that jab into over time and when Mayweather is at or near the ropes...EXPLODE.

Let's look at some dimensions here.

    Mayweather is 5'8
    Sergrio is 5'10

    Mayweather's reach is '72
    Sergio's is '75

Mayweather has (at most) weighed 151
    Sergio has (typically) weighed 168

So already Mayweather is at, in every possible way, a physical deficit.

Then you have Sergio Martinez KO'ing MWs and others who have never been stopped or KD EVER....in their life. So clearly the power edge belongs to Martinez

Speed is just about equal in this department.

Ring IQ, Mayweather clearly wins here, BUT Martinez has been able to win his most recent fights through the adjustments he makes tactically and manages to KO them in the process. So this is a department that Mayweather typically enjoys a HUGE advantage in...in this case...not so much.

Martinez is a southpaw to boot.

If Mayweather were to win this fight @ MW...or even 154...I would personally say Mayweather is the greatest fighter of all time.

Sergio Martinez clearly holds too many advantages here. In nearly EVERY category. The speed and power alone would be too much, but Martinez actually has GREAT ring IQ and with what he already holds over him. He totally lays Mayweather out. Flat.

It's not a knock on Mayweather or a favoritism to Martinez...this is a size thing that no amount of Mayweather's skill can compensate for. He would get KO'd and BAD.

Re hydration clause, 5 pounds. Or catch weight 157 with Re hydration clause:deal, Thousands of fans asked for those other great welters fighting the great middleweight.

Martinez vs Bute would also be great.

Yes but they dont grow after the age of around 25 , so you are what you are , weight is a different factor all together.

    Question for you

Who is the bigger man when seen outside of a boxing ring

Bernard Hopkins at Middleweight or Joe Calzaghe at Supermiddle??

I know because I have seen both up close , yet one weighed more.

Napoles didn't last 6 rounds, Duran went the whole 15, Armstrong went the whole 10. None won, but they tried. I would like to see how Floyd performs, just to see how the fight turns out. Those 3 are LEGENDS, and I hear people claim is Mayweather is one in that category of legends, that's why I'm so interested on this fight. If he takes the fight, he's up there with those 3, if not, well he's still an ATG.

I would too. My props and all props would go to Floyd if he were to take that fight. Although I highly doubt it judging from what I heard in the post fight interview. It seems like he wants Pacquiao and just be done with it.

Merchant asked for a list and he didn't come anywhere close to mentioning Martinez's name.

I hear you, people put too much weight:yep, on fighters being able to add weight between fights, 20, 30, 40 pounds, imo staying in shape is far more beneficial.

I'll be like :yikes, another one from the past, when I see May inside with Martinez in the 1st round, sadly It won't happen, hopefully, he fights the best opposition available at 147 and 154, ...... you know what, I'm good, I'll go back to dreaming about possible fights from the 126, and 122 divisions those are loaded. Broner vs Gamboa? :deal Garcia vs Donaire:think

Height and weight can certainly be decisive - nobody would give Floyd a chance against Wladimir Klitschko no matter how skilled he may be.

I disagree that the De La Hoya Mayweather fought was a bigger puncher than the current Martinez. It is quite clearly the other way around, imo.

Futhermore, I'd say that the Paul Williams that Martinez fought was certainly a championship level opponent - and he wasn't slow. Just because he has fallen since Martinez beat him, doesn't mean it should be overlooked that he was ranked in the top 10 of most p4p lists.

Again, Martinez is a bigger puncher than Shane Mosley (because of the size difference). If he were to land the same punch that Mosley landed, it could spell trouble for Mayweather.

I wouldn't give Mayweather any grief for not fighting a guy as big and skilled as Martinez - but I believe that if he thought it was easy he would certainly already have done so at 160 - capturing the lineal middleweight title would be a tremendous achievement for his legacy. However, Floyd isn't dumb and if he ever does agree to fight Martinez it will almost certainly be at 154 (or lower).

Floyd UD. This would be a straight up technical fight and no way Floyd is losing that
