If we took Tucker as we know him and put him in that era, do you think he makes it big?

While i generally dont like to play this card, i feel his race would give him issues in his success. I feel he would become another legend in the Peter Jackson / Sam McVea / Joe Jeannette / Sam Langford line. He'd be a notch better than all of them too. I believe Johnson would beat him once then draw the color line out of fear. Harry Wills would probably be the one to take out the older, diminished Tony Tucker. I believe Tucker would beat Fitzsimmons and Corbett (sacrilege i know), but lose to Jeffries, especially the evolved version that rematched Corbett.

Were Jeffries not able to cowardly avoid him thru the color line Jim would get demolished and embarrassed on every level possible within a boxing match and most likely several other levels outside a boxing match.

He'd become one of the most dominant champions in HW history. If given a title shot.

No,his talent would be reconized like Denver Ed Martin's was, and he would be in demand as a sparring partner as Martin was for Fitzsimmons and Ruhlin etc . But no leading white fighter would fight him for real,.He would engage in several fights with his black
contemporaries of the day and do rather well, beating Childs ,Armstrong,Griffin,Klondike, and winning and losing some with the others. His most notable win would be a points dec over Langford after jabbing Sam's eyes shut.

He'd be some age when he fought Wills if he was of any note in the 1890's.

Johnson wasn't entirely unwilling to fight McVea, Langford etc., he just wanted more money than was on offer for risking the title against him.

    1. I specified that it'd be an older Tucker, a prime Tucker vs Wills would be 50/50. I rank them similarly h2h, though obviously Wills accomplished more

    2. A warrior shouldn't need a reason to fight other than the glory of victory and a house with bread and water. Johnson certainly had his bread and water, considering he'd spend his money on dumb ****

He wouldn't though. He gets paid 1 mil+ just for top contender defenses. Hell he won't take Pac which would be his biggest payday.

A pro will try and get as much as they can. Duran is the definition of fight hungry and glory hunting, and he said this.

I don't think there have been a whole lot of boxers who lived up to that second ideal.

Ask how may pros are willing to fight top contenders for peanuts and see what answer you get?
Johnson had to wait until he was 30 years old to get his shot, and then had to fight for a tiny purse.
.Once champion he stated his terms many, many times, $30,000 a title defence ,nobody barred.
