I don't think Sam Peter is a good comparison...maybe more like a souped-up Ray Austin type?

    Or coked-up, if you like...

Eh, Ray Austin is more of a fringe guy. Berbick and Peter are both inconsistent contenders, suffering bad loses but suddenly rebounding with good wins only to lose again.

even though this is a lame division a boxer from 20 years ago would have difficulty stepping into the ring and be a top contender in todays game, there are a few exceptions [foreman, tyson]berbick handled his own back then however to be able to adapt with todays larger faster wiser boxers would be difficult to do:think

Peter never could of beat shot, fat Ali, even a Heavy-Bag what has been DESTROYED by Foreman or Old Foreman still has more boxing Skills then Lard-Ass Sammy-P. Only reason that Cave-Man look less-****-than-usual VS WALDO in their 1st fight was cos WALDO has a disgraceful Glassy cheen made of Soggy Paper-Mache. :deal

:yep Just check my profile. I know we are going to be the best of friends! :nut

I would not talk down the current division. I fancy Haye would KO Forearm in 4. Did you see what he did to Valeuv..who KOed Old George in a dark match in 89.

I think you and I can both agree that Trevor Berbick was a better fighter than Sam Peter..

Peter beat old fat Toney, is far superior to old, fat Ali. Becauz Toney is better at being old and fat, where az Ali haz to be young and skinny.

More accomplished but durability and power goes a long way. I think both were equally inconsistent, and their records against top 10 opposition are fairly identical.

:silly:nut:patsch Foreman KO1 Haye And Old Foreman KO1 Haye.

Haye RAN like a COWARD VS Valuev And Old Foreman never fought Valuev who was just a lil kid in 1989 + Old Foreman is 100% Impossible to KO. :deal

If you're only looking at wins vs losses, then perhaps, but Berbick beat a much better list of fighters.. Peter's only wins of note are close decisions over a completely shot Toney and a 39 year old Maskaev who was coming off a long period of inactivity. Berbick beat prime contenders in Page, Thomas and Tate. I wouldn't rate Peter as high as Berbick and I doubt he'd beat him either.

BUT Page broke one of his thumbs on Berbick's face - that makes him count as past-prime! :rofl:rofl

-Completely shot? Toney was still top 5 and fighting at the same weight where he schooled Ruiz and Guinn the previous year to earn his ranking. Oleg was still top 5 and always fighting inuires, he was inactive before knocking out a motivated Rahman as well. He's the modern Earnie Shavers for the most part, got some skills and can punch but vulnerable himself.

-If your going to nitpick. Tate 3 months prior to Berbick had been took out of the ring in a stretcher against Weaver. He was done after that. Well yeah, Page badly broke his thumb in the second round of the fight and was forced to fight one handed in additoin to being inconsistent himself, same goes for the spotty Thomas.

I'm not going to take any of these wins over the other, all good enough top 5 victories over vulnerable competition where they did what they needed to do.

Berbick/Peter is a toss up for me..I could see it being Chambers/Peter or Snipes/Berbick.
