Don't know much about kostya tbh pistal my only real memory of him is the Hatton fight so it was a bit before my time.i do know a lot about Taylor though being a self confessed fanboy of the prestonpanner and I am going on record now as saying the tartan tornado will never be dropped at 140lbs and furthermore will never be stopped by the time he hangs them up. I hope the Taylor v Ramirez undisputed fight happens because TTT is a certainty to win imo.
It’s funny even as a fan boy I always thought he looped his right hand. Can’t argue with the results of course but it just wasn’t among the prettiest straight punches I’ve seen (admittedly I have an non-educated eye)
Except he wasn't offered it while at 135. SSM skipped 140 of his own accord. The Oscar fight @ 147 wasn't a guarantee at the time. Shane too a chance, paid off.
He did loop it sometimes but he also threw it straight as an arrow too This is the first Kostya fight I ever saw He mixes it up the straight rights with a looping one to score the first KD Timestamped This content is protected Another looping right KD within seconds of the first bell Timestamped This content is protected
I would love nothing more than for you to be right on all accounts and I think you have a very good chance to be.
Agree. Even the first couple of fights from that compilation tape were interesting. Sammy Fuentes was a durable former world champ who was annihilated in the first round. Steve Larrimore was a Commonwealth champ. Tszyu turned his head horizontal with one punch. No wonder he went face-first shortly thereafter. Smart guy not bothering to get up. I reckon Tszyu had three boxing careers. The first was his amateur career that culminated in him winning the World Amateur Championship @ 139 lbs in 1991. The second was his early years as a professional fighting in Australia with a few cameo appearances in the United States. There were some really good, unheralded performances during that time. The Hector Lopez fight is one of my favourites. His third career was his American campaign beginning in 1997 & featuring a few cameos in Australia. It spluttered early with the defeat to Vince Phillips but culminated in him becoming undisputed professional champ @ 140 lbs in 2001. Tszyu's boxing career overall is mostly judged on what happened in the last part of it. He wasn't as fast or athletic by then as he was earlier in his career although he did prepare more meticulously & was a lot smarter in terms of how he went about things.
Fuentes actually went on to win the WBO light-welter title a few years after Kostya iced him which he defended once beating the teak-tough Hector Lopez who gave Kostya a real tough fight. Pedro Sanchez lost a MD to a 27-0 Oba Carr 10 months prior to a 12-0 Kostya brutalizing him in 4 one-sided rounds. He even dropped Carr. Angel Hernandez had only lost once in 43 fights going into the Kostya fight and that was against none other than a 79-0 JCC Sr. Jake Rodriguez was coming off wins over Charles Murray, Ray Olivera and Olympic silver medalist George Scott. And of course LaPorte, Bramble and Mayweather were all former world champs. They were all obviously past their best but Kostya was 3-0, 9-0 and 14-0 respectively when he fought them and 10-0 when he fought the very tough and durable Hector Lopez. Yeah, and he suffered those two career-threatening injuries during the last three years of his career. Hence the inactivity.
