Just passed the twenty years anniversary of the Tyson Holyfield rematch, where Tyson got drastic and bit part of Holys ear off. So if this had happened say back in Dempseys time or Jeffries even marcianos, how would it have affected the sport.? How would it have been dealt with? Pretty sure it was a first in ANY title fight of any weight, so no past occurrence s to draw on. Any thoughts?
Can imagine and what they'd look like. But wasn't talking specifically about Tyson. If for example willard had tried it with Dempsey or two ton Tony with Louis! Imagine.!
The boxer receiving the bite would have bent down, picked the piece of ear up, put it inside his boot and had it *stitched back on after the fight. *In the dressing room, with no anesthetic.
Probably not as harshly in the days of Johnson, Dempsey, even Joe Louis. I've heard of crazy stuff happening in the older days, a guy hiding a nail in the thumb of one of his gloves, crooked cornerman causing cuts by cutting their guy with a razor between rounds, putting a bit of chicken wire in a fighter's mouthpiece....... I think boxing was a much shadier sport back then.
Also, Mills Lane handled the whole situation poorly, Evander got bitten twice, on BOTH ears. Lane should have disqualified Tyson after the first bite immediately. Human bites are actually very dangerous, with all the bacteria in the human mouth can cause a serious infection. I'm curious how many shots Holyfield had to get when he went to the hospital.
