CST80, can you help explain something to me? I read that GGG's mother is Korean. Now why do all of the Kazakhs look exactly like GGG (half asian/half Russian)? Where there a bunch of full blooded asians that mixed with Russians a long time ago in Kazakhstan? Was there ever a large Korean population in Kazakhstan? Pardon my ignorance brother.

 

Stalin shipped a bunch of Koreans in there during the Soviet era.
They moved a bunch of East Germans in there too.

 

That's a rather terrible analogy considering that after the fall of Kievan Rus Ukraine and Russia developed as separate entities for about half a millennium. Also in spite of Russian historians taking a nationalist approach and hijacking the legacy of Kievan Rus if you want to try claiming it solely for one group a stronger argument could be made for it being the first Ukrainian state and Ukrainians being the progenitors of Russians who are in fact "little Ukrainians" than the reverse.

I don't hold that view it was a shared state that spawned all three Eastern Slavic groups who at that point hadn't diverged linguistically, culturally, or genetically to the extent they have in the last 800 years and even still we're very close but some Russians can be annoying with their attitude.

Lomochenko actually has faced better opposition than Golovkin, or Kovalev. They haven't faced the equivalent of a Salido.

Even though the poster's lack of Geography has got a lot to be desired, I think Kov's domination over BHop gives him number 1 spot over the rest for the time being. Until the other three face anyone close to Bhops skill then Kov stays number one. For me GGG will have to move up to face Ward and beat him to overtake Kov. But if Kov beats Stevenson and then Ward, then he becomes P4P number one in the world.

I've assumed this for this sometime, but this pretty much confirms it.

 

Well... there's a coupla things going on here. First off not all Kazakhs look half asian half Russian. Beibut Sumenov is a pretty good example of what an ethnic Kazakh looks like - originally a nomadic Turkic tribespeople ranging the steppes with a way of life similar to the Mongols (though they are ethnically distinct). Currently ethnic Kazakhs constitute something like 65% of the population of the country, though this fell as low as around 30% half a century ago.

However as mentioned by CST there was several waves of immigration to Kazakhstan from the rest of the Soviet Union, predominantly during the Stalin era especially in the war and post years wars when there was, as well as the forced migrations of criminals and 'undesirable' ethnic groups such as the Chechens and Volga Germans, a kinda 'go east young man' campaign to encourage young families, especially Russians, to colonise the vast tracks of land in the Eastern Soviet union.

The Korean heritage originates from the Japanese takeover of Korea towards the end of the 19th C. when the brutal repression by the Japanese colonisers forced huge numbers of Koreans to flee to neighbouring Russia - initially settling in many areas of the East but typically maintaining relative homogenity and settling close together.

During the Soviet years Stalin decided once again that he'd rather kinda have them concentrated in Kazakhstan, but these 'Korean Soviet' people still tended to have their own villages, collective farms, schools etc. and remained relatively ethically distinct from the surrounding populations until well into the latter part of the Soviet era.

Hence while it's fair to call GGGs mom ethnically Korean her forebears will likely have first settled in Russia under the Tsars and she could well be a 4th or 5th generation Soviet / Kazakh citizen.
