In the octagon Wilder would put dudes in comas. If Stipe can transition from being a Baseball/Football player, Wilder would severely hurt dudes. But he gets paid far more boxing so no point of transitioning.
Every boxer in the octagon has a notable punchers chance. But Wilder would get retired from professional sports (hopefully) if he had an MMA fight. Real fighting has no time for frauds.
Wilders chicken legs get low kicked and broken. Heck his technique is so poor he could get knocked out by anything.
Lol... Stipe had a wrestling background and was also an amateur boxer, he wasn't just a baseball/football player... Wilder is clumsy and uncoordinated, the top guys take him down and pound his head into the canvas. Outside of the top guys the HW division is pretty weak though... If Wilder was a little younger he could probably cross train and become a decent fighter, the top ones still destroy him though. He would probably be similar to Browne.
Yeah with the smaller gloves and Wilders questionable chin, technique and defense, it's not outside the realm of possibility that a big puncher in MMA could clip and KO him. Still... I don't see why anyone in MMA would stand with him, he's not coordinated enough nor does he have the right build to stop the takedowns of a top wrestler even if he cross trained... Someone like Povetkin would be better suited for a transition to MMA - due to his stockier build, style and kickboxing background. Even Miller would be better suited than Wilder....
I don't think he would be nearly as good as Browne in MMA. Then again I don't think Browne would be nearly as good as Wilder at boxing. Wilders in the right sport, he just doesn't like fighting the top guys is all.
True. It was just the closest example I could think of. Browne is actually probably a better athlete than Wilder.. He played basketball in high school and college, and although I could be mistaken he had higher accolades than Wilder. Can't find anything about Wilders basketball career in high school-college... Browne also didn't start training in combat sports until he was 26, compared to Wilders 19.. Today Browne is 34 and Wilder is 31, so do the math. Wider has been doing this for longer and with more experience, but Browne has faced better opposition within the realm of his own sport.
Actually I reckon a dude like Cro Cop might well go so far as outstrike Wilder in a straight up boxing match.
