How would you best define the 'manchester style'?

    With all these threads about how poor gallagher is as a trainer making all these plodders, i ask how would you best define the manchester style?

    IMO its basically similar to the mexican style ala barrera and margarito.

    a very aggressive style, which heavily emphasizes body punches. the best we've had is ricky hatton who blocks, slips and rolls punches better than given credit for as he lost to two of the best fighters in this era.

    -Stand upright with gloves held high.
    -Shuffle straight forward
    -Once in range throw punches

    It takes years to fully master

    Yeah, it's got none of subtlety and skill you see from the best Mexican fighters. The footwork is the main issue.

    They are deluding themselves with this Manchester Mexican phrase.

    It's basically a load of pub fighters trying to copy what they see top Mexicans do on tv. Exept with none of the class, talent or chins to do so. Then they take hellacious beatings from good boxers

    Hatton did, but the Gallagher style (which is the most common one seen) is not the Hatton/Graham style. Ricky may have battered that body guard, but he also did work on getting angles and slipping punches.

    Funny thing is Mexican's accept they aren't the most defensively aware nation for boxing but they must stand there in awe of the sheer stupidity of this 'Manchester style'. Look at the aggressive Mexican's and they all had method the there madness and skills. Footwork of Morales should be on tomorrow's agenda at the gym.

    It is not a Manchester style. Like TFFP said Brodie was not like that. Nor was Hatton or going further back Barrett or Thompson.

    It is a Gallagher style.
