not really...the defense protects his chin like no other...he stays "tight" in the defense...trust it isn't the elbow...small part is..but the main part is the awareness of his body position...VERY BIG PART OF BOXING IS BODY POSITION..Pacquiao doesn't know this though...

Come on. It's a big part of his defense arsenal. The other being the forearm to the face.

Think about this, if floyd couldn't use his elbows. Ricky hatton would've tee'd on him. Yes, hatton was being countered, but atleast he could work inside.

You can try to punch the elbow as well.

Also...throw a Jab to get him to roll then unload a right power shot to the kidney. That's one tactic.

The problem is, he counters so damn quick. and he can anticipate and adjust this attack.

You need to have a good ****ing jab. Oscar was controlling the pace when he threw his jab, too bad he was too inconsistent with it for whatever reason. Shane was focused on his jab during the first round (or second I don't remember lol), he was stopping Floyd in his tracks but Shane just isn't a consistent hard jabber.

Either that or you have good foot speed, excellent ring cutting skills, just enough power, and a good chin and stamina.

Southpaw left straight down the pipe.
    Southpaw Right hook
    Pressure
    Body shots.
    Speed and power.
    Stamina.
    Chin.

I'm not saying these will beat Floyd but these will give him major problems.I notided in the Ortiz fight the left straight was landing flush on Mayweather and he got hit strangely more than i have ever seen before.I don't think he likes them southpaws.

His discipline, head movement and reflexes certainly don't hurt either. It would seem to me that people are neglecting how quickly and accurately he's able to rip off and counter his straight right when implementing the roll. Putting it all together is much more difficult than he makes it look.

And yes, he puts his forearms and elbows to use with various other tactics that all but bring an opponents offense to a full stop. Legal too. :yep

I believe one particular style that could work is a tall fighter with a significant reach advantage, great hand speed and excellent stamina. You'd have to drown PBF under an ocean of punches, throwing every blows in the book and more, Joe-Calzaghe-style. Eventually some will land and score on the judges' cards

But unlike Joe, you'd have to stay out of Floyd's reach at all time, maybe keeping a pawing jab in his face all night long.

When Mayweather gets inside, your foot speed becomes a factor. Get on your bike if necessary, and don't hesitate to grab him from behind or on an angle to neutralise him. Pushing down with all your weight might be a good idea to slow him down, too.

Not saying this is the only or the best way to fight Floyd, but it could be enough to get the decision.

    Thoughts?:think

Overhand right setup from a body shot or feint. There's a gaping hole that's supposed to be covered by the left shoulder, but it gets opened when Floyd pulls back. With enough reach and proper timing. BOOM! Mosley/Floyd round 2 happens.

People also need to understand that Floyd's biggest weakness is how orthodox the man is. The philly shell limits your weapons to a small set list of tools. He has the jab, hook, straight right, and the uppercut from the inside. You will never see Floyd use a lead uppercut, overhand right, roundhouse right hook or anything from some crazy angle. He's very text book. Knowing what counters can come from what position he's in is half the battle.

Combination punching limits Floyd's counterpunching arsenal. Straight right is his only tool. A hook would leave him far too exposed to get nailed by a hook himself. Straight right hand is the best option with limited risk. If you're buried in his chest, expect a forearm to the face and an uppercut for your troubles.

Another thing is Floyd will clinch or push off with his forearm so putting yourself within THAT range is a stupid idea too. Mid to long range combination punching is the way to go and just know a straight right lead is coming. Having him stuck on the ropes negates the power he puts in that counter as well so intelligent pressure is key.

Take away Floyd's right hand and he's pretty much finished. Defense or not.

I think I’d need fighter that has decent speed, can punch with both hands, and is fleet-footed enough to step around and create angles/openings. I’d have him try to:

    • launch looping, overhand rights that can glide over the shoulder. Even if a lot of these don’t quite go over, I’d be reasonably happy if they continuously land on the shoulder with power.
    • feint a few times before doing the above, otherwise he [my fighter] will risk tiring himself out by hitting thin hair. Let Floyd fall into a defensive position where he has little room to escape to after. If he ducks low, then there’s only one exit route left for him – he has to come back up. Have a strong right hand ready for him – whether it hits him in the back of the head, the temple, or wherever.
    • step to his [Floyd’s] left to a blind spot, and shoot a left-hook/straight-left in-between his shoulder and the glove that he keeps at the side of his right face to blocks left-hooks from standard, orthodox positions.
All of the above may fail horribly. But **** it, that’s why I’m not a boxer/trainer.

    Thanks Tempzzzz :good

I'd especially like to see that final point tried (about stepping to the Floyd's left).

Because as you can see with the below, his left-hook is disarmed because he has his left arm covering his body, and his right hand is also limited because it's protecting his face. When he's in a defensive shell like that, you won't have to worry that much about what comes back. JMM's main mistake below is that he's limiting himself to punches that that defensive shell is designed to block. Soft left-hooks that repeatedly hit the glove, and slow straight rights that bounce off the shoulder/arm :verysad.

If someone can feint to put him in that defensive position where he's leaning back like below, they need to then look for and create an angle that he won't see a punch come from. The stepping/turning to his left and a placing a shot through that small window, could do the trick for a couple of rounds.

i get what you're saying but floyd is very clever at neutralising punches, as soon as someone tries something he is on to it buddy

Yeah, that's the problem. It'll only work for a round or two at best. After that, forget it. Move onto something else.
