Should have had a more stellar career relative to his talent.

    over rated by americans

cherry picked fighters, ducked the best imo

he didnt want to lose early so he ducked them, this kept up the stupid media bias and idiot fans bought his fights when he fought police men and dust bin workers

a joke of a fighter, wish you americans would stop over hyping him

The general misconception is that Roy avoided fighting certain fighters...the truth is no top fighter who had any choice wanted anything to do with Roy. Everybody knew fighting Roy was a guarranteed loss. HE WAS THAT GOOD.

Yea, even today if you were wanting to show a new boxing fan what a prime RJJ was like you would have to pull out old tapes. There's just no one in the game, nor has there ever been that was as close to perfect and unbeatable (to quote an earlier post) than he was in his prime. At 160 and 168 his power and speed were almost superhuman. At 175 his speed was almost superhuman still with good power. To paraphrase an early interview of RJJ's he wasn't the next Sugar Ray Robinson, he was the first Roy Jones.

That being said there will always be the questions of him not seeking out the big fights til he was over the hill. In his prime RJJ could have went anywhere in the world and beaten anyone at that weight class. But I really think it was the 1988 olympic rip-off that stopped him from ever doing so.

He didnt want to go to Germany to face Darius or Wales to face Calzaghe (honestly not sure if at that time Joe was willing to come to the states or not) but I think in the back of his head he was worried that if he didnt knock them out in their home country he wouldnt get the decision.

Agree with much of that except the Calzaghe statement. Joe was a nobody. Roy wasn't thinking Joe was a viable opponent in any sense. No great athlete like RJJ would have caught a glimpse of Joe on video and thought "hmm, that dude would be good comp". No f***king way . Ya might as well say that Roy saw Kabary Salem and David Starie and was sizing them up for a future fight.
